I Decided I wanted to get a Stihl and figured a 028 Super would be a good choice. I've done quite a bit of research on here about the 028 Super. Pretty much regarded as a Stihl classic and I can see why. I bought it in good used condition, After taking it apart it's very clear this thing was built to last. Very impressive build quality and it's not that heavy for the amount of metal in the saw. Seems to have a nice feel and balance to it. Probably vibrates more then others I have, but not too bad.

I have noticed Stihl does not offer parts manuals,or so the website says.:confused:Not sure why,but I'll work around that until I can find one. I did do a post on the manuals thread.

I was looking for a good solid firewood saw to add to the collection and I'm sure this tank-of-a saw will fit the bill very well. I'll probably try to find an 026 to compare it to.

Good deal. Im sure you will like, I picked one up myself a few weeks ago. I like it so far. Lots of torque for such a small package. I was debating on it or the 260/026, but for the money ($100) I couldnt pass it up. You will like it.

I've worked on a few 028 Wood Boss's, decent saws. A good friend of mine picked up a well used one for $150 about 10 years ago, and cut most of the firewood for his home heating till a few months back. It finally gave up. Some new rings and about a half hour later it was back in business.

I ran it quite a bit while it was here for repairs, nothing overly impressive anyplace, decent power, "grunted" pretty good, etc. I'm not sure how one compares to an 028 Super?......Cliff

Hey man, I have both and there is not that much difference between the two. A muffler mod does both of them a lot of good. As far as lasting we have one that's been in the family for about 30 years and I just went through the top end last winter. It stihl looks good too. If you take care of these old work horses they will last a long time. As far as I'm concerned the older ones are hard to beat and I got a mess of um. Saw Safe.:chainsaw:

I think youll like the saw for sure. The 028 has a kinda weird oilpump setup but other than that its modern.Got any pics?

Funny you mention the oil pump. That is the one thing I'm having a problem with. The gears don't seem to mesh very well. I've done a search and am still learning about this setup. Right now it's getting hardly any oil. The crank gear sits below the oil drive gear-or so it seems. I need to make sure I'm not missing a part somewhere. Other than that, the saw seems good to go.
