I have been thinking about not having it done, but I dont think that I can go the rest of my life like this. Something is just not right. Kinda feels like I am walking on ice with that side all the wime, like it will and sometimes does give me a slip. UGH

Did you get it done?

Went back for my follow up visit and the Dr. says it's loose as can be, about the same as my other one? ?? And he recommends having it fixed. NOT what I wanted to hear, thought I could work through this one too. I don't trust this guy for some reason.....
Well I checked and this Dr. accepts my insurance http://www.sandersclinic.net/

I've been following this guys posts on www.thumpertalk.com and have been doing alot of reading lately. Think I'm going to fly to Texas and let him do it while I can still afford my health ins. F'rs jumped my rate 45% AGAIN starting in Jan.

He does it much differently from most others, opposite patella tendon. Not some dead guys parts or compromising your hamstring. If you are that active and the other guys talking about giving up sports-look this guy up and read everything on his site, then go the the forums and read everything there. Looks like he does some good work on previous attempts and shoulders etc. too.

I have not got it done yet, Next friday is the day. have to do it though. not good now. I ama bit scared, nervous, ehatever you want to call it. I talked to the nurse for pre op today, ekg stuff and wan to suck my blood. Yikes!!

Stihl, I know what you are going through trying to decide whether or not to have surgery.

You make a great point here...

That is how I have decided what to do in my situation also.

Good luck with your decision and if you choose the surgery, I hope you heal well and have a speedy recovery!

Stihl hurting hugh? Us and our knees. I gotta get mine fixed or replaced, but I'm so use to it hurting, it's become the norm. No way I will fix it during cutting and heating season though, Probably next summer when the trout get tight lipped and it's too hot to cut. Good luck with the cuttin, and although we all know you won't, listen to the dr.....Lanny

what do ya mean wolnt listen......??? I "heard" what he said. I hear that this hurts like snot. Does not really bug me as far as pain now, but I am sure that Dr will take care of that, its why he gets paid the big bucks. I am getting more grouchy and scared as the days pass.

Thanks Baldman. I seem to have found a bit of comfort/confidence here. Thanks all.
Yes I am a wimp. I handle the pain ok, just to being out of commision terrifies me, I hate to be a burden to my wife and just cant sit still. I have set up my nest in the shop, mucho better that being trapped in the house.

I tore my ACL when I was 20 while playing softball. At the time I had no insurance and was waiting tables while in college. I never went to the doctor, so I had no idea what was wrong. My job involved a lot of walking, but I just toughed it out.

Fast forward 20 years. I was racing my motorcycle offroad in Delaware, planted my foot in a turn and injured the MCL in the same knee. I had insurance at that point, so I went to the doctor. And then finally had it repaired.

The surgery was only supposed to be 45 minutes. But when the doctor got in there, he found the old ACL damage from 20 years prior and repaired that as well. I think it took him 2-1/2 hours all total.

When I was in the recovery room, he came in to explain what he did. I asked him how I was able to function all these years with an ACL problem. He explained that the muscles in the knee tend to get stronger and compensate to some degree for the problem. Yes I had a "clicking problem" in my knee a few times a day, but generally there was very little pain. I guess the body is able to adapt to a lot of injuries.

You have every right to be scared, concerned and even grouchy. No guy wants to go through that type of thing. I worked around a lot of lead dust for many years; the company would take blood every two weeks from my arm. I didn't mind it all but don't ask me to get a flu shot. I ran in to a 2 inch steel shaft to move round hay bales and had 96 stitches in my neck, I told the nurse to give me all my shots once I pass out because when I come to, it's not going to happen. My wife is a nurse in the recovery room, she sees that sort of thing a lot. The operation is a snap, it's the PT after that bites but they say it isn't as bad as the pain they had before the operation. If the shoe was one the other foot, I'd feel the same way as you but you'd be reading this as I'm typing from the bar because I'd be there 24/7

Good Luck on what ever you do.

3 more more work days...... Then friday, I am usually excited about fridays!
It is -12 here right now. The cottonwood that most people turn thier nose at is anly managing to keep the houst at 83.4. Rotton stuff eh?

83.4!!!! Are you getting a tan too!!??

Looks like that cold air is on it's way here..sure hope it doesn't get THAT cold though!

I don't understand being picky about firewood...I guess that's because I'm still scrounging for next year's heat...maybe if I was 2 couple of seasons ahead I might look at it otherwise.

Good luck Friday!! Just keep telling yourself in PT...no pain & no gain.
and remember, they make wonderful pain killers these days!

I can understand about being apprehensive. I'm more than a little scared myself. My problem is I have to take the Dr.'s word that my ACL is really torn bad. Most of my pain has been in the muscles around my knee and it's almost gone now. Doesn't feel loose to me at all. Sending my MRI to the other Dr. today and see what he says.
Good luck with your surgery.

BTW , how long has it been since you injured it this time?

My knee does not hurt unless I misstep, or carry something heavy, logs. The big problem is that it is like walking on ice, and on ice it is nothing short of terrifying. I slipped on the vinyl in the kitchen with snowy feet today, about wet myself. Had the pre op stuff today, preg test, and ekg, no babies and heart is ticking away. Friday at 7 bells am is the zero hour, again.
I tore it up this time on Aug 9th, I am old..... To old to be super dad I guess. It hurt like #$% when I did it, for about 2-3 days, then I just ignored it, I guess. Ibuprofin GOOOOOOD!!

Good luck with the surgery tomorrow, hope you heal fast so you can get back to doing the things you love. Keep us posted, I'd like to know how things went. Be prayin for ya....Lanny

Lanny
Thanks. The surgury is on friday at 7 am. getting really concerned at this point. ugh. Man I feel like a big ol girl..... I am really not sure what the deal is, just cant get it outa my head. I just wanna go cut wood!!!

Remember the last one, they give you good drugs, go to sleep, wake up fixed. Then it hurts about like when you did it for a couple of days. Next thing you know, you're cutting wood and it don't hurt anymore. Hell man, that sounds more like an opportunity than a dreaded event! I guess you feel like the tree feels when you fire up the Stihl.......Lanny

I don't know how you guys are putting any weight on a torn ACL at all. When I did mine, if I put any weight on it, then stood up or straighned it out......bang.......it would bend backward. That backwards thing was excruciating. The doc said mine was snapped....not torn, maybe that was the difference.
Stihl, cadaver tendon or your patella strip steak?

RD

Stihl, You are doing the right thing, you know that, so go with that thought and it will help keep you relaxed.

Like I said before, I know what you are going through, but mine is a disc that they either want to fuse or replace. Like you, I can get around, but I have to be so careful and plan every step... If I don't then I pay the price!

I am so tired of "living" like this.

Heal well, do what they tell you do and heal strong!

Keep us updated

You'll be in our thoughts.

Keep in touch and let us know who things turn out.
