In the Spring edition of Tools of the Trade magazine:

"Hitachi also released its first chainsaws. Since the company owns outdoor power equipment manufacturer Tanaka, expect to see even more gas-powered tools coming out in green dress"

I couldn't find anything more about these on the web, but I did find the info below on a Hitachi electric chainsaw.

What is a "oil feeder"?

I was in Menard's earlier, and noticed they were selling these. Which surprised me, as they don't sell any other Hitachi tools. Nothing that impressive- "Made In China" was prominently displayed on the clutch cover. About $200 as I recall. Just another Chinese saw in a multi colored wall of them.

As a side note, I really can't figure out Menard's strategy with chainsaws. When they started bringing Efco in, it seemed like they were on the right track. The 152 and 156 (largest they keep in stock) are some of the better saws you can buy off the shelf at a box store. But they do zero promotion of them as a premium saw, and most people have no idea that they are twice the saw of the homeowner Huskys on the shelf at Tractor Supply down the street. Then there are a couple Poulans usually (Wild Thing and a cheap 40cc Poulan Pro), and bunch of Chinese WENs, and of course the crown jewel, the Blue Max. Though they're not always labeled Blue Max- they will be the same saws in the same colors, but with whatever name they happened to stick on that day. I think the ones right now are Super American Cowboy Ultimate Nitro Saw. And now a Chinese Hitachi. Efco has a couple low end Chinese saws that would cover that end just as well as the WENs and Blue Max, and then they have some actual good saws as well. I don't know why they don't just go with that line and be done with it.

Menards had a couple of these on display when i was there the other day, for those of you that dont know menards its like lowes and home depot

Tanaka makes some decent little 2 stroke powered water pumps for gold dredging. The one a friend had used to work flawlessly until the day he wandered off to pan out his black sand and didn't realize his hole had filled up with water .......pump never ran the same since. I felt bad for him at the time, but it WAS funny.

Just so that everybody is informed. Hitachi bought or merged with Tanaka and sell Tanaka under the Hitachi brand name. It's similar like Dolmar which was bought by Makita and is branded, depending where in the world, either as Dolmar or Makita.

I like their power tools...

The gas or electric models?

Hitachi makes some good power tools. I don't know much about the Tanaka line.

I was impressd with the table saw,,drill press and belt,,disc. sander I bought with the Hitachi name on them... They are not Delta,,,but a good product for the money....
I havent seen the gas line of their chainsaws here yet, but hope they are just as good as their power tools...

Their power tools are good for the most part (I especially like their miter saws). And they make what is pretty much the 372XP of framing nailers- the pro's standard in much of the country. This saw didn't look like much. But then again, neither did the Ryobi that was such a sensation on here. Maybe it's a diamond in the rough- I'm sure someone on here will pick one up at some point. Interestingly, the saw is shipped/packaged assembled with the bar sticking out the side of the box in a scabbard.

go to Sears

Craftsman $100 for an 18" bar, auto oil. Why bother with twice the price?

Money left over for files, chaps....:chainsawguy:
