Ok! Now I have a good reason to stop in and see ya. I watched one of those last year at a farm type show. It does everything just like in the vids. Seems to me that it cuts the wood and not so much as splitting. I think the full table would be very helpful.

Yep! You have the best of two worlds. Great saw and now the splitter.

And we will see how long that lasts, LOL I like the S Splitters but dont own one.

Butch,
MOst of them last 20-30 years or so and are almost never placed on the Market used. Go ahead see if you can find one used on CL ? The darned things are so simple they don't break. It's a primarily "farmer" used tool. Anyone who knows farmers knows getting $ out of one is like getting blood from stones. But once owned they don't give it up. I got a video of me rippin up a 36" pin oak in 30 secs but I got no clue how to post it.

A friend of mine has one of the first Super Splitters, only his is electric powered. Unbelievable how fast and how QUIET his is. You can listen to the radio while splitting with it with no problems. I WANT an electric SS for the home office.
My friend takes a small generator with him when he goes to the woods to split. Sets the gen off a good 75' away, and plugs it in. Still so quiet that you can have a radio going with it..run off the same gen set.

The electric powered SS is hard to beat. His runs a 3/4 HP I think. 110 AC house current.
Like you said, you could split in a heated shop all winter, quiet as a mouse. The loudest thing is the "pusher" returning to ready position.

I don't want to drop a deuce on your parade route here mnguns, but why is that splitter worth $3200 if the $1200 tractor supply company are competent splitters? For $3200 I hope it came with a pet mexican.

It may be faster, but I don't see $3200 worth of compnents on there. It is a couple of large steel wheets and a motor, frame, and wedge basically...

You are paying for the "technology" you know the guy that was smart enough to assemble a few inexpensive pieces and make a fast and durable splitter.

And the risk of a lawsuit from someone getting hurt, and the money needed to buy inventory to assemble, and the tuition he has paid to the school of hard knocks, etc. He puts up the money and knowledge and so he should be able to charge what the market will bear.

Reminds me of an old joke. Big company has their furnace go out on the coldest day of the year and if not fixed they would lose lots of money. So a furnace guy shows up, looks at the furnace and takes out his hammer and smacks it and the furnace comes to life. He hands the factory owner a bill for $2000. The furnace owner is irate and says "I need an itemized bill!" The guy writes out an itemized bill: Rental cost of hammer = $5. Cost of knowledge to know where to use said hammer = $1995.

1. The $3200 did include shipping, and an optional but highly recommended production table. Knock the two off the price an you are closer to $2500.

2. Show me another splitter that has that rate of production for less money.

The way i see it is you don't have to expain to anybody why you spent that much on it. It does what you want it too, So it don't matter what you paid for it. It's your money and nobody else spent a dime but you. So enjoy the 3 second split, Wish mine done it that fast. When people start sending you money to pay for it then they have the right to complain.

I live by two expressions when it comes to tools:

#1 Buy the best and only cry once.

#2 I never threw down a high quality tool in disgust and said I wished I had bought the cheaper alternative.

Guns, I'll be up for some educating as soon as I get caught back up after a weeks vacation...probably be all summer at this rate.

If you've got all your wood split before I get there, I'll bring my own :D

At the county fair last year I saw one in action and man is it fast! I can't remember the brand of this one, but it was built here in Ohio and unless Im mistaken I believe the price was $2,100. Ill look into it.

Did you find any more information on those splitters? I believe I have seen a few floating around here. I just never got the nerve to stop the persons and ask about it. The one I saw was green.

The old schooler hydraulic guys just can't accept that something like this might actually be better than their oil filled beasts.
