Stihl 044 suddenly stalls, but only under load

Runs fine when cold.
As soon as it gets warm, it stalls when I put it under load.
It runs great at full throttle in the air.
It runs great at half throttle in wood.
It's when I give it full throttle in wood, that it stalls within 3 seconds.

I replace the spark plug.
I replace the air filter.
I pulled the carb, and gave it a complete cleaning.

Any ideas?

Where do I find my clutch spring in the saw?
Is it easy to replace?

A clutch spring has ziltch to do with dying under load. . .

Could be an air leak, possibly a fuel system issue, maybe even an electrical problem.

If its an air leak. after the initial stalling, the saw usually will start acting real funny, idling up, stalling when given gas, not starting back up.

It behaves consistantly when warm.
Rips into the log great, and in 3 seconds, stalls.
I can save it from killing if I back off on the throttle instantly...
Then, i can go back to cutting for another 3 seconds.

Perahaps a cracked fuel line?

what rpm is it tuned too out of the wood . just cutious does it hold a steady rpm out of wood and if its running lean .

Sounds like a fuel problem.

Start by having a look at the fuel filter in the tank, feel if it is clogged or clear. Check the fuel line for cracks like you mentioned.

A good carb rebuild never hurts either. Check the fuel pump diaphragm to see if it gives. See if the main jet is sticky or worn. . . All that stuff you get new in a carburetor rebuild kit which you can get from Baileys for a few bucks. Soak the torn down carb in a solvent of your preference for a while and make sure all the passages are clear, but dont force stuff through them cause that will trash em up..
You can check your high speed setting to see how the saw is running at WOT, but if something isn't proper you wont be getting accurate feedback.

I don't know the RPM that it's tuned to.
It runs great, and steady out of the wood.

After its hot hold it wide open for a few seconds. Notice if the motor is running clean or if it is burbling alittle.

Kind of like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa & wawawawawawawawawaw.

The wawawa is what you want. If it is waaaaaaaaa, you are running lean & that can kill power.

Also see if your muffler ports are clogged in any way.

can u give a little gas then when it hits the powerband give it full gas and it will runs good? might be the high and low needles too

I'm not sure what those questions mean, Chevy.

But it runs just fine out of the wood...no burbling.
Then, in the wood it runs great for like 3 seconds, and then abruptly dies.
I let it rest 1 second, and can take off again for 3 more seconds of cutting.

So, take a small flat head and turn the H screw counter clockwise say 1/4 turn and see if you detect a difference, keep hoinh until you do. Once you do hear that burbling sound, lean it out until it cleans out and then richen it back until the saw burbles slightly. See if that helps, but your settings could be fine, but a clogged filter might be restricting fuel..
