I've noticed Joat has took a long vacation. The last time I spoke with him on the phone he was remodeling his house so maybe he's been a busy bee. I'll have to give him a ring and see what he's up to...

With my good looks there's no need for make up, wish I could say the same for you. Booker I hear the beauty parlor is running a special this week, you should get on overthere and save some money to boot,:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

The Hurricanes soon were outdated, and played a major role only in the Battle of Britain, in 1940. The Germans made a lot more ME109s and FW190s than the combined Spit and Hurricane production overall, but then they had to face a lot of other US and Soviet models as well, that were made in huge numbers.
Yep, Lend-Lease was key. Nonetheless, the Germans could have brought more to bear had their factories not needed to re-tool so frequently.

Another over-simplified story, but surely there are some truth in it!

Actually, it was the total air superiority of the Western allies that broke down the German armor, not the allied tanks, that were much inferior to the better German ones!
The planes that mainly did that job were none of those mentioned above, but late versions of the Spitfire were involved in cutting supplies etc. Most of the job was carried out by Hawker Typhoon and Tempests + the P-47 Thunderbolt of course + a lot of bombers of varying brand and size - mostly US ones.

I just happened to study that part of history very closely lately.

We could go on forever on this. But we're in general agreement.

Yep, our tanks pretty much sucked compared to German armor. But America, being, as FDR described, the arsernal of democracy, was able to make them M4s faster than the Tigers and Panzers could blow them up.

And with air superiority, our B-17s and B-24s could have at the industrial targets - and thereby hinder the German's ability to build new materiel.

I have several friends who flew with the Mighty 8th. Man, the stories they can tell. One guy - early stages of Alzhimers - tells me the same story every time he sees me. He'll first look to see that we're not in mixed company. Having ascertained there's no ladies in earshot, he describes the logistics of taking a whizz at several thousand feet. "Damn it was cold up there. And I don't have to tell you it ain't easy getting the job done trying to get 3 inches of penis through three and a half inches of padding."

A few years a ago a book was published about Stihl. Its really one helluva story. Its amazing what Stihl himself and the company went through to become what it is today. If you go to any Stihl dealer ask them about the book. They may not have but can get it for you. There is a member on here , goes by the name Just Mow, he has several copies of that book..
Thanks. I seem to remember that there was a book and that Mow's got copies. I seemed to remember a price being floated in a discussion at one time. Seemed reasonable for such a niche/specialty publication, but a bit more than I could scrape together outta spare change in the couch cushions. (Got a 5yo and 2yo, so the entertainment budget is close to zero)

Speaking of factories, oh I'm so glad you asked. I've not seen them with my own eyes but those that have tell me some of the old German factories still in use are outdated, way outdate compared to the most modern factory they have, that be their biggest and best, the one in the USA at Virginia Beach, Virginia. (Sawtroll shall comment soon,LOL)
Happy to oblige with an opportunity to give you a moment of chest-puffery. Thompson Center Arms is located about 30 miles down the way from me, so I know what it's like. Probably how my friends in Vermont would feel if you told them that you liked cheese or Ben n' Jerry's. :)
