Probably not what you guys were thinking from the title, but the truth, none the less.

I went in early this morning in a slight drizzle. Had to be at work by 9 o clock so I was'nt feeling too good about the hunt being it 8:15 already. Had not seen a single deer this year except one 6 point and two does. Getting frustrated but sticking it out.
About 45° and dropping. Cold front coming in. I'm slowly stalking thru down a narrow ridge heading toward an Alfalfa field. I jump up a few does and keep heading off the ridge. A few minutes later I hear a buck grunting over in the hollow below. I see the doe coming up toward me and this buck right on her tail. I got a good shot at about 40 yds. Stopped him and made a good shoulder shot with my 45-70. he dropped on the spot, layed a second and then gets up! Starts off and falls a few steps later. 11 points. 10 mainframe with an extra browtine on the right side. He is decent for sure. 17" inside. Points could be longer but a good main beam length. To keep it on topic, I sharpened my saw when I got home. And made it to work by 10. :)
Hey Hillbilly, I still got one more buck tag! :)

It's the same buck I had a few times earlier this year while cutting hay. I kept him under my hat.Theres a couple other guys that hunt my spot, but they hunt a couple other spots too. They had'nt been in there but a couple times. I had found alot of good sign on that ridge. Had'nt seen any good bucks this year and hardly any deer at all. Went from losing focus and motivation to "can't wait to go back"

Thanks ya Brad! I'm happy with him.

Nice Buck Anthony.
My buddy got this one, unfortunately I was not in the right place at the right time and mine was not near as nice. He kept this one under his hat for a while too

Nice deer anthony. That sounded like a pretty good day to me.

Great Buck! I've been out myself a few times, only seeing does and small, scrubby bucks. The local hunt club has had their dogs all over this place since Saturday morning, so that's kinda messed-up the hunting for me.

Nice buck. Congrats !
45-70 ? What the heck are you carrying those around in ?

Why not ?

I would guess because of the human population. We're talking of a cartridge type rifle, aren't we? The only things allowed for deer hunting in Indiana, as far as I know, are black powder rifles, shotguns with slugs, large pistols and bow and arrows. They have different seasons for each. If it's a 45/70 pistol it would be ok.

The only shooting I am doing at deer now is with a camera. Caught this one in a field off the side of Rt.15 the week before last.

Gotcha. Yes, many States do not allow the use of high-power rifles for hunting.
I'm glad VT is not one of them.

It's pretty hard to go anywhere in my state where there isn't a house nearby. When I was a kid you could find a woods about anywhere, but no longer. Harder yet to find someone who'll let you hunt on their property.

I just use my in-line muzzle loader here in Ohio. It shoots .44 bullets as accurately as most any rifle, and has all the range I need here in Ohio. The same thing goes for rifled slug barrels. I just enjoy using the muzzle loader. I guess it's the bow hunter in me. One shot, one kill.

They've come a long way since in-lines became common. I still like to be able to reach out to 'em at
300 yds. with a high-power, although it is rare to get that opportunity. My longest, so far, is 185 yds. He dropped where he stood. Never felt a thing.

The late Blackpowder season is open until January in Va. Rifle season ends next Saturday here. I agree that an inline is very accurate these days. My Omega can almost get a MOA group at 100yds, almost. It seems alot more accurate with 100grains of powder instead of 150.

I was lucky to even get to go hunting any at all. It's a bummer that they won't let me off work more. Hell, the other two guys miss almost a day of work every week. I've missed one day in 2 1/2 years.:(

45-70, old school cartridge from like 1870's maybe. The way I load it, it's basically a repeating .50 caliber muzzle loader. Lever action marlin. Perfect to carry while walking in the rain.:)

PAplumber, very good buck my friend.

Guido, I really enjoy seeing the deer also, but enjoy hunting the big guys too.:) I'd bout rather be in the woods then any other place on the Earth.
