going to do a muffler mod on my 600p,,was wondering if a 1 inch inside dia pipe be to much or to little for it,,,i am not going to do a port job on it,,just mod the muff,,,,this stock muffler is a stupid setup,,,,exhaust comes into muffler,,goes through baffeling,,makes a hard turn into a pipe to the outside of the muff and deflector forces it to make another hard turn,,,,picture a big z,,,so i know if i make a direct route it will breath a whole lot better

What is your total area at the cylinder exhaust flange? The total area of the muffler exit can match if you are retaining the spark screen, if you are not retaining the spark screen then a muffler port around 85% of the flange size works well on a non ported saw.

i just got done taking it apart and measuring,,,,the factory exhaust exit tube in the muffler is 3/4",,the widest part of the exhaust flange is 1" and it tapers back to 3/4" next to the piston,,,so i am figuring to just go with 3/4" inside dia pipe out the front of the muffler and block off the orginal exit port since it exits on the top of the muffler with a deflector,,question is would i be wrong to do it that way??? the reason to do this is give the exhaust a straight shot instead of going through that stupid z setup,,,i know i am going to leave the baffling in,,well maybe drill out some of the holes,,

1 inch would be bigger than a lot of those imports :hmm3grin2orange:

i know what you mean,,my wife has an 08 focus and i think the exhaust pipe on it is only 1 1/2",,guess you don't need anything bigger for the hampsters to fart through,:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

The existing single port can easily be opened up to about 1 square inch. The baffle can be removed or ventilated. That satisfies the 85% rule, anything else is just more noise.

as you can see by the drawing by following the arrows there is 2 sharp turns for the exhaust,,that why i said before it is a z formation,,i am going to take all 2 turns out and go straight out the front,,,

Now that is the crappiest drawing i have ever seen! Lol, i would do 1/2 but thats just me. My poulan is gonna get 1/2 maybe 3/4 not sure when i muffler mod it. Just got to wait til monday :)

I would think that 1" would be pretty big for a 60cc saw. I would think that 3/4" would be more than enough.

Definetly gut that junk out of the muffler too.

I would use 1/2 or 3/4 i really think 1" is way to big.

the factory exit is just a hair under 3/4,,,it will be covered and welded with a piece of flat metal,,,,the exit now is 3/4" and i drilled an 1/2" hole through the baffel right in line with the exit hole,,and left the holes in the baffel the same size,,,,just need to weld everything up and i will almost have a direct exit,,should give it a bit more power,,,will post a few picks when i get it back together

I bet its gonna be loud as sin! Post up a video to of it.

A direct exit may not be best for a 2 stroke, that why most put the new outlet on the side. Another reason for side outlet, is when the front of the saw is up against a log.

after all said and done,,,the inlet side is at the top of the muffler,,and the exit is at teh bottom of the muffler,,so the exhaust is not going straight through,,it has to travel to the lower side of the muffler to exit through the baffel,,,i had figured it was straight through but it isn't

here is the finished product after modding,,thanks to dhibbs75 for finishing the welding and the finish work for me,,,,,,this thing sounds wicked,,has more torque as you can see by the video,,,,it is louder i know that,,,can't wait to get it into wood tommorrow,,,,,here is 2 pics and a short video,,,i closed off the factory exit and made the mod exit just a hair over 3/4 inch,,i gained about 10% exit and no more of that stupid z pattern,,
