I had a stihl fs 90 ave trimmer give to me. It didnt run when it was given to me. I put a fuel line on it for $6.36. It now runs great after a carb adjustment. I was wandering how these trimmers are for reliability and what cc they are. Thanks Rob

FS 90 Bike Handle Trimmer - Professional Use Grass Trimmer | STIHL

This is with the "bike bar"...but the "R" D-handle is same motor
It's maybe Stihl's best selling "kinda big" trimmer.
Has excellent reputation for power and reliability!!

And someone GAVE it to ya!!....WOW...what a deal!!

Hope this helps...

My dealer gave me the trimmer. He said it wasnt worth his time to mess with it. Well for the 6.36 I got in to it, it was worth it to me. It starts with one or two pulls. Matter of fact it starts easier than any other trimmer I got.

service

My dealer gave me a FS90AVE as well. The exhaust port on it was nearly completely blocked. I sold it for $75 after making repairs.

Hello
I have one of these and it has worked great but now when I start it up it runs ok if i keep the throttle press half way but as soon as i let go it will not idle. can you please tell me where i can download a service manual for it, OR some instruction to how to set the carb up with the two screws.

Many thanks

The 90 AVE I had given to me did that when I first started it. It would not idle. I turned the low adjustment screw to richen it a bit (counterclickwise). I then turned the idle screw in a bit.

Hi Thank you for getting back to me.
I have google for a drawing or something to give me a clue to what is what with the carb but just cannot find anything. Can you tell me what screw is what please.
I did see on one of the news groups somthing about a service kit for the carb.

Thank you for your time and trouble

This is for chainsaws...but it's about the same for trimmers...
It will tell you what the three different screws are and what
they do to adjust the carburetor.

Hope this helps you out...
You will certainly know more than you do now!!!!!

Hi J2F thank you very much for the link, I have been and had a look and yes you are right I know a LOT more now than I did. I now have a starting point.

Thank you

I know this tread is old as the hills, but I have one of these with a bad ignition. Just wondering before I take the time to disassemble the thing whether or not there are ignition parts available.

And, keep in mind that the FS90 with the cylinder on top and tank on bottom is a different animal.
