Summary:
overall good for the money. I use it almost daily

Strengths:
Easy start , plenty of power

Weaknesses:
only the oiler ,,, BUT ! its a easy $5.50 fix that anyone that can turn a ratchet can fix its the same oiler gear that a lot of other saws use. sears part number 537252601 most sears parts have in stock. remove clutch cover, bar, chain, spark plug . fill cylender with nylon twine or roap, turn clutch wheel clockwise to loosen ( yes reverse Thread) and there is the gear . and i have fixed many of these mostly due to incorrect oil or running dry . if you ever let it run dry on oil it will strip almost imediatly.

Used product for 3+ Years
Purchased From lowes

Found this review on line. Been looking at these refurbished but have found a lot of complaints about the oilers not working, B&C wearing out from lack of oil. Has anyone tried replacing their oilr with this. I wonder if it is made of plastic too or if this is a better material. If you let it run out of oil it's toast immediately? Wow better make sure you fill the oil every time you gas up.

your supposed to do that anyway...

i can assure you that it is almost never the gear in the 455's and 99.9% of the time the screen in the tank...

that guy is out of his mind...running it out of oil will not strip the gear....

That's why I like to ask the questions. If it is screen issue is this something Husqvarna has corrected. I still see the problem exists in recent reviews. I realize that some of them may not know what they are doing, like using the wrong oil for the time of year. What do you guys use for your winter mix? Do you run the straight bar oil in the summer?

Same oil winter or summer

Using standard plain jane bar oil should work year round. The 455 had issues with the oil pump and I believe they switched to a different oil pump.

But what do i know, I only work on them...

30w regular bar oil in summer. 20W low temp bar oil in winter.

Well if I get one I hope they put the updated one in when they refurbished it.

Its not that hard to replace if you have basic mechanical knowledge...

I personally think you should give up on the 455 rancher...look for an older plain 55 or a used 365.

Better yet, save your pennies and get a new 365XT if your stuck on Husqvarna. If not get your self a MS261.

Get something good with a warrenty.

Now please stop starting new threads about 455's...

Last time I checked this was a forum to ask questions and try to learn things in order to make informed decisions. If you don't like the threads then don't read them. If you have good advice then offer it.

you have started 8 threads about 455's and oiling and chains coming off bars on 455's...

I was only telling you what someone else would be along shortly to do...:msp_mellow:

Thank you for your advice and keeping track of my total. I may start nine if I have another question. If you don't like the ninth one then please by all means don't respond to it. I'm sure you have way more experience than I do that's why I ask questions so I'll have answers.

Thanks - my Dad has one and eventually I'll need to know about them, either because he gives it to me or he needs me to fix it. I'll file that away.
