Hi,
I got a problem when replacing my sprocket and would appreciate any help. I cannot get the white plastic oiler drive cog pulled out - see picture. Both the sprocket and this cog do not seem to want to come out. I have not tried forcing them as this is the first time I have done this and do not want to do more damage than good! Is there something I should release to enable their extraction - or should I just go ahead and apply a bit of force?

Thanks,
cabs46

Spin it clockwise and it should "unscrew" from the oil pump. If it does not, then a thin screwdriver under it, trying to pry close to the center should work.
Must be changing from one gauge to the other, as that sprocket has a lot of life left.

8433jeff is right...just spin it and pry up a little bit CAREFULLY! I had just had mine apart a few weeks ago to do the crank seals

Thanks guys. Took your advice - spot on! It came off with a little easing. Never been in one of these before and working without manual does make it more 'interesting' - can't find a manual anywhere.

Thanks again,
cabs46.

Why were you replacing the sprocket ?

Hi. I just got the saw and have only had the rim-type sprockets before (on a Sachs Dolmar 111). I thought it looked a bit worn - but from what has been said, looks like it may be OK?

Yep. Your new one will look like that in a few hours.

Well thanks ZeroJunk! You have saved me a few quid. All I need then is a new chain.

What a great site this is! Everyone is soooo helpful. Someone just sent private message about where I can get a manual :msp_thumbup:

PS Talking of new chains - any suggestions? I used an 3/8 Oregon 73DP - the change to a .325 is new to me so I do not really know what to expect from these chains.

Had that same question a few weeks ago and had the manual downloaded from here, it is in there but you gotta turn it 3-5 times before it comes out.

Still got the skull divot from scratching my head so much, as the computer was at work and I was at home fooling with it and wanted to get at the seal.

I turned it both ways just not far enough. Welcome to AS, this site will teach you a lot!!! I quest for broken saws just for the challenge of getting them going.

Hello, just wondering if I could get that link as well for the 028 av Super manual. Just picked one up last month in really good condition and the manual would be a great addition. TIA.

I had mine all apart just the same as the posted picture and was wondering the same thing, how on earth do we remove the plastic pump gear. Thanks to this thread I now know. So simple. Good to know for future reference.

Just had it apart for cleaning as the drive sprocket is the same condition as the photo.

Seems to be some debate on whether to run 050 or 063 gauge. I went to the local Stihl dealer and asked for a 20" bar for this saw. He sold me the 3003 008 6621 which is the 050 gauge.
Without really thinking I went to ebay and ordered 2 chains 20" 81 drive links .325 pitch and, you guessed it .063 gauge. *cough*dumbass*

So as of today I ponder, do I keep the 050 bar and order 050 chain or .......
Exchange the bar for a 3003 810 7121 and keep the chain.
This is the chain I bought ...

Tried to find the original specs on what the 028 Super originally was sold with but no luck yet.

Any ideas wood be appreciated, Thanks for your time.
