spent 4 hours today cutting up this beauty. it is about 36" across just up from where it fell off the tree. took a few friends with me my 362, 044 and 660. ran them all, the 660 was using square ground skip chain. it could cover my boots with sawdust/chips very quickly. the more i run that saw the more i like it. couldn't get the truck very close and didn't bring the tractor, cause i couldn't take it to the log (log was in my uncle's garden) so i loaded i'm guessing close to 2 cords of green oak by hand. left about another 1/4 cord (3 quartered round) for the guy who rents one of the houses on my uncle's farm.

here she is

Nice work, Terry. Thought I should tell you that airflow space between stacks really helps drying; oak is slow at that. Should take you a few years to burn it all. Meanwhile, it earns better interest than money in a bank. :msp_biggrin:

Oh yeah, with all that wood falling in your proverbial lap, one could say that you suck. Nooooo, I didn't. Really. :jester:

(How did you get eight pix in there? Surely others will ask too.)

Good job, that big one looks like fun. Makes my chainsaw trigger finger twitch just looking at it laying on the ground. What size bar on the 660?

If the branch is 3 ft, whats the trunk? That 2nd tree should be a crap load of wood, 3 cord?

if i weren't so beat i might go do it again tomorrow. but i think the big one will wait till spring when i have 3-4 guys and a tractor and the big dump truck

the 362 (ported) was pulling a 25", the 044 (ported) was pulling a 32, the 660 stock was pulling a 36"

it's behind the limb i would guess close to 5ish ft +/-

here some more of the biggun. i would guess 10ish cords left

Great score of oak. What a beauty. If I could only have one wood for heating, I would choose oak. The only thing I do not envy you about that score is breaking those big rounds down to firewood size, but what a supply of oak you will have.

His pics are hosted from Photobucket, I guess that gets around the image limit?

Mr. HE:cool:
Yes, You can load more pics with an offsite host like photobucket, but the problem is once you delete those pics from there they will not show here. So anyone seeing this thread a long time from now will only see text. Much better to load them from the site. that way they will be here forever.

True, but that is also exactly why some don't. You lose control and ownership of images you upload to AS.

Don't want to hi-jack, just trying to provide info steming from the original question. There might be a thread about it somewhere or one could be started.

Hope you have a splitter for that monster. Does your 066 have a muffler mod?
I didn't see any noodles when you worked up that big limb.
That is great wood, if you have the time to let it dry.

I didn't see many noodles either, but I saw maul and wedges. Some of us cavemen still prefer whacking stuff with rocks on a stick :) Looks like he half ripped, and finished with a maul.

To the OP, nice score. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous...

Looks like a stint of good weather too, shorts and a T. Send some of that our way. :msp_biggrin:

I see some smaller trees with the tops knocked out of them that might be candidates for firewood too.

well i cut the round a little ways and whacked then with a maul so i could load them now they'll be easier to move to a splitter. i'm not sure i would like firewood as much if i didn't have a splitter:msp_biggrin:

true, if you break the link then they don't show up, but i rarely delete photos

i am one of those cavemen, also faster than a complete noodling unless you get one that won't split on the first whack

haha thanks

it was t shirt weather, but only because i was working. high yesterday was low 40s. that pic was from the summer

yeah there was a lot of damage from the storm, got ost of the litle stuff done. now onto bigger things

Very nice scores indeed. Oak is marvelous and warm, warm, warm. Love seeing trees like this put to good useful purpose. I hate driving through my area and seeing some of the trees that are down that just go to rot. I'd ask about them but I'm kept pretty busy with the same kind of trees you've got there.

I would love to run one of those 066's with a 36" or larger. I'm kinda starting to jones for 2100CD or newer large saw.

Enjoy the heat from those bad boys. They are a pain until you learn how to make the rounds more manageable. Then its good fun:hmm3grin2orange::chainsawguy:

cool pics looks like a fun day!

Maybe he'll let you take the rest of that oak down next:laugh:

And just wanted to compliment you on that beautiful firewood truck.
