I have a standard Echo cs-400 it runs pretty good but I'm hearing a lot of talk about "adjust this, remove that, port this, and drill that" and to be frank I'm really confused by all of it. But the thing is I really want to unlock the true potential of this saw.

Is there someone out there that can give me proper step by step instructions on how to accomplish this?

i have done a bunch of these and 370's,,, take the muffler off and take out the honey comb thats inside,, thats the cat,,, open up the exit port as much as possible under the deflector,,, then pull the limiters off of the carb so you can adjust it properly,, all of this is easy and it will make the saw run a lot better

Almost there now

Thanks for the pointers guys I ordered some oregon's 91vxl today as for the muffler bit I think I have that under control now thanks to Scott but it's adjusting the carburettor now that's the tricky part for me. I would appreciate a walk through talk through regarding this issue guys. Thanks in advance. Pictures and or video are certainly welcome.

It sure will I've done some research on the 91VXL and you can't ask for a better loop on your bar. You get twice the cutting done in half the time plus it hold it's edge satisfyingly long. It sharpens with a 5/32" FILE or a 1/8"GRINDING WHEEL. 62 drive links will fit it just right too.

thanks Scott! I didnt have it up now. I love my cs370.. I might have to take the
junk out of the muffler and adj the carb on it too, I guess i would really like it then :)

cool ill try it soon, I have so many saw projects I dont know what to do first

What exactly is rich and what is lean and how do I get from one to the other also how will I know when I'm right on the money?

listen to the sound of the saw in the video at full throttle, it misses its called 4 stroking but as it cuts wood it has a clean 2 stroke
sound. the 4 stroke sound is ovre rich condition,= too much gas when under a load it leans out = less fuel, to its sweet spot in the
the saws tune. under power it uses the extra fuel

I've started to pick at the muffler and realise I don't have the required tools.
Can anyone post a list of all the tools I'll need to carry out a decent muffler mod?
thanks in advance.

every muffler is different,, on the cs370/400 i use a drill to drill out the cat and a dremel to smooth it out and then use the dremel to cut the opening bigger on the front of the muffler under the deflector

I have been doing a lot of research on here in preparation for a muffler mod on my cs 450 also. One of the threads had pics of cs450 muffler (offset cat kind) where he just drilled two new holes on port side and one new one on exhaust exit side without touching the cat. Is there any advantage to going through the trouble of getting that cat out rather than just bypassing it through different holes?

if you have a way to weld the muffler back then take it apart and gut it, if not then bypass the cat if all possible,

I dont have a way to weld the muffler back together so I was going to plan B with the holes like you said. I'm wondering if you make a big enough bypass path around the cat, is there any advantage to getting the cat out? Are there other baffles you cant see that need drilled out also? I think I can get the cat out without splitting the muff but we're talking hours vs minutes. Thanks in advance!
