so... now that i know, the 2153 is the 50cc hotrod, of course i get a line on a NOS 2152... while this isnt the preferred 50cc saw, can brad or mastermind port it? tune it? does anyone have any experience with a modified 2152? is it worth putting money into? i guess what im asking, is that if i can get it cheap enough, can some one on here make it a great saw?
thanks

Its a 353 and lots of people have modified these saws. Any builder on here could port it. Its up to you whether its worth the coin.

What would you want with such an ugly little saw;)

Does the 2152 have the removable transfer covers and the dished 45mm piston like the later 350's? If it does it should be a good candidate to modify.

Also the cylinder isn't vacuum cast like the mahle cast cylinders on the 2153's, so its prone to thread failure/porosities. If your making any more heat in the cylinder or running it above 13,000 then you'll be watching your muffler bolts fall out on a regular basis.

reading saw reviews all last night, that is what i have heard... everyone was talking about muffler bolts falling out... is it really as big of an epidemic as they made it out to be? some said it was an easy fix and some said it would continue to happen no matter what?

The muffler bolt problem was much worse on the 2150. It does not have the support bracket like the 2152. I don't get into the ported saws, so it may be an issue if modified.

Actually, I have never heard it is an issue on the 353/2152 - just on the 350/2150, that lack the muffler bracket.

thanks troll, that makes me feel better. im already in hot water with the wife about buying this saw... if i got it and the first thing she sees is the muffler fall off.... well.... .:buttkick:

Husqvarna/Jonsered has for a long time provided the XP or ULTICOR models as the top models. In addition to these top models, an almost identical model has been introduced. The Jonsered CS2152 or Husqvarna 353 are typical examples of saws with slightly less temperament, with a lesser trimming level, lower fuel consumption and hence longer lasting life.

That was the reason we went for the CS2152 9 years back, so another fact is that these are long runners in production, and gets more refined for each revision. It'll also guarantee a good availability of spare parts. Apart from a tank ventilation problem that plagued the first years models, which got a design revision in 2007 I think, this saw has been working very well, and has a remarkable low fuel consumption (good torque at low rev. too), being of the non-strato design. Being a non-strato (CLEAN POWER™ / X-Torq®) design, means less parts and better longevity, so why waste time in changing what's working so well? If you want more performance, get a 346xpNE or a new 550XP instead!

I agree that the problem was more prevalent on 2150/350 saws, but the bracket on the 2152/353 only prevented the muffler from falling off and getting whacked by the chain when the bolts loosened, it does nothing for holding torque or bolt retention. The problem lies in the metal itself. The mahle castings are vacuum cast which leaves virtually no porosities in the aluminum. The Husqvarna castings are just poured into the molds which leaves alot of porosities especially in the smaller areas like the exhaust port. Installing gardcerts in the bolt holes seems to help but isnt 100%. Idealy finding a way to use the bolts and nuts from a 2050 would be a great solution, but why bother, just upgrade to the 2153 cylinder and get better metal and more power.
