 I didn't buy it to mow, I only have an acre of lawn. I bought it for occasional yard work, for firewood, the driveway, and to help with snow. I feel like it was a good deal. 4x4 2500 pound tractor, loader, power steering, live PTO, 1900 hours, and rear chains. Anyone want to guess what I paid?

I'd expect about the asking price was about $8K or so... I see a '85 JD 950 with loader and ~1500 hrs going to $10k in my area. I've seen some 650's selling for about $6500... It must have been the right price. Care to share?

never seen or used a gang mower then?
they have their place, not as useful as a zero turn but they could out mow any zero turn easily. weather it be reel, rotary,or flail...
I mentioned the 12-15' gang mower in my post. It takes around 50 hp for a 12' rotary mower, more for flail, can't say I have seen a PTO powered reel mowers.

I'm NOT talking about golf courses or LARGE yuppie fields, I'm talking about yards, even bigger yards, you know like MOST folks have. Most folks also have a tree or two, or something else to mow around and a zero turn is where it's at for all of those conditions. I do have field mowers, MFWD tractors to run them ect. too.

As for zero turns on hills and damp grass, (not extreme hills) my zero turn does quite well in those conditions, so don't "blanket statement" ALL zero turn mowers...

I have no idea what you paid, but my friend bought a low hred 850, looks like new with mower and a couple other tools for 6K, I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I think I did ok at 6500, most seem to be at 8 to 9. It runs great, but I'm sure I'll have a few odds and ends to work on.

"My current zero turn out mows anything I've ever been on, tractor or otherwise..."

well you seem to "blanket statement" any kind of mower as "anything", i also said gang mowers have their place, you didnt say WHERE your mower could out mow "anything", you just said it could...
as for hills, i never said they couldnt mow hills, just not anything much over 20% where as a tractor can mow 50%+ grade...
they all have their place, some more versatile then others, but none of them are best for everything.

anyway this is about the OP's tractor he just bought, i he wants a finish mower for it who gives a ****, it may not be as fast as your zero turn, but hes also not trying to mow lawns for a living with it!

I agree, I didn't word my original post well...

Some zero turns mow slopes much better than others, mine has bar tires and the deck out front, it mows hills better than I ever thought it would, but of course, not as good as my MFWD tractors...

Guys I was just throwing a finish mower on my wish list as a possibility. It would be a cheap way to mow. A lot cheaper than a new mower.

Gents...not meaning to hijack but seems to be some tractor knowledge here in the thread. Anyone familiar with Mitsubishi sub compact 1500D? My father passed a couple months ago and my Mother wants me to buy his tractor or sell it outright for her. I have a Ford 1600 (2WD, no power steering, 23hp, FEL), the little Mitsubishi is (19hp, 4WD, power steering, FEL). Much smaller framed tractor but I have been using it for a few days and really like it...or might be that I really like the power steering.
Anyhow what would you think a fair price is? Tractor in very nice cosmetic shape about 1100 hours, with a FEL.

It must be a D1550 as the D1500 is a 2WD... Sorry no idea what the value is for it, you might wabt to compare it to other tractors in the same HP class or just google them for sale to see what asking price is used.

Check on similar sized tractors and then the big question when your dealing with your mom, who is better off financially, if she needs the money more than you pay at least 15% more than it's worth. If she doesn't need the money as much as you, deduct the 15%. That's just the way I'd handle it.

I DO NOT want to sit here and dis your dad's tractor BUT, If it was ME, i'd let that Mitsu go down the road.... They have some things about them that are very lightly built, and are not built as tough as your Ford... Probably wouldn't matter either way as a lawn mower, but.....

TBrown. I wouldn't waste the money on a rear mower, with only an acre you'll likely never take the time to hook it up. I had one for my Ford 1520 but never used it other than to play with it trying it out. Spend the money on an attachment that you will actually use, or a wagon or trailer.

I have duals for my Steiner, we very seldom use it for mowing though. Have 2 zero turn Bobcats and a Walker.
