Carb Cleaning Question

Once fuel lines are disconnected, I've never had any problem using carb cleaner to spray out the carb. Then I just reassemble and and fire them up according to directions. Each saw I have calls for a little bit different startup procedure. Happy sawing!

Okay, okay lol. Wait what? Don't soak it? What I'm supposed to do with it then!?
Spray it down as best you can. The C3M carb has a sealed welsh plug that is susceptible to some solvents other than fuel. If the plug looses seal you pretty much now need a new carb. The paint should come off with some light cleaning anyway.

Spraying solvent in the cylinder or crank case will displace the oil and wash the oil off the cylinder walls and internals. You don't want that.

Removed from the saw yes, cleaning the lines out with break parts cleaner is fine. Shooting cleaner down the impulse line with it still connected to the saw is a really bad idea.

Do you have a 6421? Seem to know an awful lot about this thing. Just found this:

So WD-40 for the cylinder? I want to ensure nothing abrasive fell into the cylinder. What can I spray into the fuel/oil lines or is that unnecessary?

I own several 7900's and have owned several more. The 7900 is the same saw with a bigger top end.

WD40 is fine, but unless you have a real reason to do so I wouldn't. You're over thinking this. Put her back together and start cutting.

Ha! You just figured me out. I over think EVERYTHING.

I forgot to put the damn metal ring back into the rubber hose thing that leads from the carb to the cylinder! S#*%!!! Have to take the carb back off lol. After that I should be ready to rock and roll.

So you bought a "rental" saw from Home Depot?
Do all Home Depots sell their rental saws?
hmmmmmm
I may have to check, I have a Home Depot 60 miles South of me.

That residue looks like something that was in solution and was deposited when things dried out. Give the air filter a good cleaning. If you take the carb apart lay it out in the order AND orientation which you removed it. A sonocator works great to clean out the body, use a proper solvent, and rinse well/dry when done.

Yep I did. Not sure if they all rent saws. I have literally 25 Home Depots near my house or job so I called every one of them. I hear these saws are hard to find. The Home Depot in Delaware just sold two saws for $215 each so prices vary.

Are you a Devil Dog?

Air filter is new. Yeah, I tried to lay it all out in the correct order and even took pictures of everything before I pulled it off. Just forgot the stupid metal ring. Don't have a sonocator in my shed.

Most HD's have a rental dept. They have quite a bit of stuff for rent. From hand-held power tools to towable scissors lifts and cherry pickers.

And yes, they do rent chainsaws.

The one in Delaware was also selling a used splitter. Regular price was over $1,600 and it was selling for about $900. That may be my next purchase. Now back to putting this saw together.

Last summer I was at a HD store in Spokane, WA. They had a brand-new, tow behind you car, cherry picker. It had a reach of like 32' or so. Very compact and easy to use. It was going to be a rental item.

That was something that I would have liked to own.

Yeah, I used to work for the evil Orange Complex that is known as Home Depot. I was a contractor salesman for them, but often covered in every dept. They have a set schedule for every tool and release tools according to that schedule. Sometimes earlier if they deem the tool beyond their service. We usually released tools in the fall and spring if I recall correctly. I actually preferred covering for the tool rental to any other department as it was simply checking tools out, checking them in, then cleaning and servicing them.

Well the saw starts and runs. Thought they sold me a dud at first because the demp button didn't pop out on the first pull. Thought it would pop out right when I pulled the starter rope. Compression seems good with it out though. Anyway, now the chain isn't getting bar oil. Oil outlet looks clean and there's oil build up all along the saw's body. I'm using Husqvarna Bar and Chain oil which seems really heavy/thick. It's not that cold here so not sure why it's not making it onto the chain.

Also, high speed jet seems really lean. Screw is turned all the way until the limiter tab is resting on the low speed screw.
