I agree, really can drive nails with an accurate swing. I have a NOS Vaughan framing hammer head that has to be around 30-35 years old that's never been hung on a handle that's probably gonna stay that way lol
Does anyone know if the Hart Company still makes the California Framer? Had the 21oz framer and the 16 oz trimmer. Loved those hammers!!!

Its funny how some people don't want to spend the extra money to buy something made in the USA so they buy something from somewhere like China then the same people complain how bad the economy is and how we have no money, well how can we have any money if we send all our money to other countries? everytime you see made in some country besides USA that is money leaving our country and not coming back and it hurts us all.

Yeah notice people like that a lot

Chinese engines on Sears mowers are the fault of the Vulture Capitalists who shut down Tecumseh.

In the 80's I bought a nice set of Craftsman wrenches, they were Made in Japan. (Code BF) Good wrenches but I expected USA.

In the early 90's I had a cracked Craftsman 10 mm socket I tried to return for 3 years. That was when Detroit finally went all Metric. Never in open stock, always refused to break a set for me. Finally I gave it to a friend whose Dad worked at Sears and a new one cameback... 3 months later.

I realized the warranty was worthless and started buying SK. I still have some Craftsman but to me they were always the assclown of tool brands. My wrenches are now entirely SK SuperKrome and I use my GrandDad's Barcolo Buffalo for SAE. All my 3/8 sockets are SK and they don't crack like all the Craftsman I went through in the 80's (SAE cuz I owned old cars).

The toughest screw drivers I have found are the old Stanley commercial ones. I'm a tin knocker and your screw driver is used as a punch. You beat on it more than you would a chisel. Those old yellow and black handles were the the best. I find them at flea markets and buy them all for a buck.

The best Vise Grips are the ones that say Petersen Manufacturing on the emblem. I'll buy every pair of them I find too. They are much stiffer than the others and release much easier. They also "just" feel better in my hands.

I'll 2nd that on the old Eager 1 mowers. I had 2 of those gray ones. Those things ran forever and I never did a thing to them except replace worn out wheels. RIP old Sears.

Yeah, I'm looking for a descent HD 77 or those old school craftsman ones.
In the mean time, this is a saw site, so here's a saw. Thin ring 3.7. With some mods. This saw has maybe 10 tanks thru it and 6 from me in the last 4 years. Last time I used it I had a 28" combo on to cut some big maple at my grandmothers house.image.jpgimage.jpg

All my Vice-Grips say Vice-Grips on them. I have a ton of them in all different sizes and styles.

All mine say manufactured by Dewitt / Petersen and USA.

Best available, IMHO.
There are several plants that made Vise Grips. The new Irwins are junk IMHO. The new Miliwauke grips seem pretty nice and they come with an eyebolt for the tensioner so you don't need to weld on them to tie a rope to them.

The old New Britain grips were real nice too. I have a few pair of them scattered about

I have a Vaughan 23 oz...now I can't remember if my 21 is a Vaughan or a Hart.....the sticker is worn off. This is the 21.
I think it is a Hart California Framer. My Vaughan 23 has the round bottom where it meets the handle like yours does.
That looks like the Hart logo on the handle. That was by far the best framing hammer I have ever owned.
