An experienced logger friend who has worked as the chief sawyer at a sawmill for years asked me to do a little clean up and sell his big Stihl MS 880 Magnum chainsaw. I installed a new outer handle and a new top nameplate and checked for smooth operation of all components: chain brake, oiler, clutch, etc. It starts and runs beautifully and has only about 90 hours of run time on it after being placed into operation in early 2006. For the past four years it rested on a shelf in his garage. It has a few typical scrapes here and there but other than that, it's a shelf queen looking for a proud new owner.

Compression is huge. This saw as pictured weighs in at 31 lb with bar, chain, fuel, and bar oil. Stihl rates it at about 9 Hp with no modifications. The saw shown here runs so well in wood that it hardly knows that the 25" bar is mounted. Many loggers run the 880 with 36" bars and up.

You may buy this saw with or without the 25" bar and two chains, both in excellent condition (.404 pitch, .063 gauge and 80 DL's) or the power head only for $100 less.

Price of saw with bar and two chains: $1250
Price of power head only: $1150
Both prices include shipping Fed Ex ground to USA mainland. I will accept Paypal, cashiers check, postal money order, or a personal check and ship after it clears.

Not a big market for these out there. Must not be any one needing a milling saw at the moment.

850 for a basically brand new 880 is unheard of around here. I see people listing them for upwards of 1200 on the east coast. Ones that aren't even minty.

A new one runs about 2 grand. Here's some 10-year-old data:

Regardless, it's a fine piece of equipment and I wish I was 20 years stronger. If I were, I'd never sell it.
Depends on the area. $1550 or so out the door at one dealer near me. They don't mark up much and come down 10-15% on saws. The prices are all over for these. Ebay will bring a good price more than likely. Cooler weather in a few months will make it easier to sell also.

A guy told me last month that he loves using this chain saw and that the 880's weight is what he likes most. As he put it, "I just place the saw's bar on top of the log with a sharp chain and let the big dog eat. This saw does it all."

I have a craigslist ad trying to sell a 026 and a 044, the ad says I have other saws ask about others available. I had a call tonight from a guy 68yrs old 3 hours away begging me for my wore out 088 that a logger friend gave me. I priced it at 500$ pho and said it is shot, he said he as long as it is complete he wants it. He asked if I had any 090's or 076's I said no, and asked him if he was milling. He said no he's 68 and likes to run a big saw with his son for their firewood. I tried to sell him 066's and 460's and said he didnt' have any time for small saws. He's from Nebraska, I be he doesn't cut over 28" wood, seemed odd to me.

Replied to PM. I believe this MS 880 will satisfy his quest for a big saw, and beacause he's local, I can knock at least $50 off the price that includes shipping. This guy must be strong for age 68 or his son is. The current owner used to throw the shot put in high school. I will look into it based on PM info that you supply. Hope it works out.

And, unless he runs into big cottonwood or elm, 28" is big for a firewood tree around here, so the 25" bar might be all that he needs. The larger trees are usually sold to the mills and cut by loggers.

I know that guy, he's got firewood and large displacement saws stacked to the ceiling.
Well, you have to wonder how his big saws got stacked to the ceiling and he's interested in yet another. Maybe those never ran right, don't run now, and he cannot fix them. Who knows? Anyway, I'll try to give him a ring. Meanwhile, this saw is still not sold, and it's a beauty.

He collects them, bigger the better. I sold him a 076 super. He's a former tree service owner. He is an older guy, but don't let that fool you, he's a big tough dude.

So did you get to see the guys collection I heard he bought a saw from you today

Well, I did not see his saw collection, but he bought the saw as advertised. This remarkable Stihl MS 880 is no longer available for sale. My thanks to all of you who contributed to this thread. If I place anymore chain saws up for sale, I will list them here first for our forum members to consider.
