I'm looking for a thread posted a while back and seeking assistance either locating the tread, or hearing from members who've converted Husqvarna 550XP and 562XP saws back to a conventional carburettor.

I presently have (2) 562XP saws that are dead with a highly annoyed owner who spent good money on the saws and that are now out of warranty and he's looking for options (other than "remodelling" the saws with a 12 gauge).

One saw was returned to Husqvarna 3 times under warranty, the other was returned once under warranty. On all such occasions it appears from the Husky repair dockets the AO chip had simply burnt out.

He simply refuses to pay another cent on the saws to have what he believes is the same issue resolved. Bottom line he asked if I could convert these back to a normal (non computerised) saw. Hence the reason I'm attempting to find the thread where a few guys have already done this

Seems like there is a non autotune version available, 560 XP or 561 maybe? But not here in the States, only in Europe. I would think you would need a carb, ignition module, and flywheel.

Joe

No, the 560XP is just a 562 with a lower top and small mount bar, but it's an AT saw. There's no 561.

Thanks for all the replies so far....Seems to be an even split between the "can be done" and the "can't be done" camps.

I'm fortunate that I have 2 of these saws available so I can play Dr Frankenstein, and better still, a customer who simply doesn't care if the experiment is a success or failure.

I've sent an email off to Husky Dog regarding his carby conversions on the 562XP saws.

From my personal perspective, I believe I should be able to use the existing flywheel and ignition module (in theory at least), as these function exactly the same as they would on any other chainsaw when not connected to the AT module. Sure there is the extra connector plug for the AT brain, however a quick snip from the side cutters fixes that little problem. So electrically speaking the task should be straight forward (again, in theory at least).

For me the greatest issue will lie with both finding, and indeed adapting a conventional carburettor to the existing inlet manifold and carburettor housing on the 562XP. I've had a look at several different carby's sitting about the workshop, with a few that may be suitable, but noting yet that would be a perfect fit.

I'll keep you posted on progress.....be it success or failure.

It can be done. I would say you'll have to make a carb boot somehow. I don't remember what Ed did to fit it.

Sounds to me like Husky should man up and fix these lemon saws. It shouldn't matter that their out of warranty. Take care of the customer.
its called consumer law in aus given these are given a premium price he should expect a reasonable life from said product and seller/manufacture are liable to fix even after 12/24m warranty(or less for pro use)

How about makin'ít non strato: a plate with a round[ Husky 372 style] neck bolted to the cylinder, a 372 intake and carb. With more work i think a 372 XT [strato] intake and carb would be better. PS . On Ebay are right now several 562 carbs.
