hello

i need some help. does anyone know alternate carbs i can use. i wanted a brand name because a chainsaw is dangerous enough without it making you mad at the way it runs. i have seen one or two stihls on ebay that say they will fit but when i looked them up i could not verify the stihl part number and they both had the compensate ports on them and my saw carb is a plain jane. i also wondered if they had the correct jets in them. lots to consider.

will the 290 model carb work on my saw? they might be easier to find.

i have used the model numbers below and have gotten no where in putting my hands on a new one. these model numbers were gathered by reading things on goggle.

thank you

Why do you need a new carb? They can usually be rebuilt fairly easily.

In answer to your question, yes the MS290 carburetor will work on your 029. It's best that you use the 290 air filter with it since it connects to the scoop on top of the carb. Zama or Walbro both work okay. I'm not sure if there's any other brands for that saw or not.

That's funny. Here I was thinking cause I can't find one for sale from my chair that I had missed the boat and my beloved saw was fast becoming worthless as I had better get busy and find one to buy.

I need to ask my local people first. I would like to thank you for helping me with that information I will buy me one tomorrow and save $35.

Kinda embarrassing but really good news again thanks

Here is one I bought the other day. It does not come with the air filter/snorkel grommet, ask the parts guy, most mechanics have a spare or two around in their toolbox. Also in the pic is the air filter that it uses.

OOOooppps, sorry. $33
Just looked it up.
Harley with prices like that why would anyone go aftermarket from china? Here in Ontario Canada its $99.99 if the prices were more in line with the US we would be rebuilding more saws than tossing them in the bin!

If you ever need one sent up there, let me know. I don't ship outside the U.S. much anymore, it may be high.
But if you want one, I'll let you have it for what it costs me, and shipping of course.
P.M. me your e-mail and I'll send you our distributor's Stihl price list.

I just looked up a Chinese carb for my 024 and the price was $13 and some odd cents. I've bought 029 Chinese carbs for around $10 and they work just fine.

I've had correspondence with people from Canada before and it seems that some of them are really hurting for saws and parts. I've thought about getting a van full of saws and parts and heading north for a while. The situation may be better now than it was..

I popped in my stihl dealer and he quoted me $43.70 for the carb, bushing $1.55 and its filter $22.95. Still $20 less on the carb than a internet price
