Hello all,

I own a P61, but no spark,

Question is...

How often does the kill switch go bad?
I know it could be the ignition, but when I pulled the side off, it looked ok just dirty as hell.

Will the Kill switch from my 550 hurt anything if I put it on my P61?
Jut to try it?

Thanks for any help.

Try everything then change the ignition because P series saws are famous for bad ignitions. If you think it is the switch just unplug it and try for spark. The switch only grounds out the ignition. The saw will run without a kill switch as long as the wire isn't touching ground (anywhere metal on saw). Mike

Thanks I will do that.

Thanks for the help.
I unplugged the switch, and still no spark.
I will now take a look at the Ignition.
Anything I should look for?
Anything that I should be aware of?
Where would be a good place to get one?

Thanks

Unplug the switch wire at the coil, sometimes they get pinched where they make the sharp corner above the flywheel. Also I had one recently that the coil was very corroded where it attached to the cylinder, cleaned it up good fire now.

The original part number for your saws module is;
475259

This may convert over to Poulan part number
5074766339.

Give Rottmans a call @

616-877-4711 to see if these interchange.

Good luck.

I had a coil go bad on a Pioneer/Poulan 455 and found that a late model coil from a cheap throwaway poulan fit with just a little modification. I had to grind a little on the laminations as they were about .125 too long and would grind the flywheel. So far it runs great and had to cut the plug with off about .750 of an inch.

Mr. Batson,

I followed up with Rottsman Sales on your Pioneer P-61. The Pioneer module part number 475259 is NOT interchangeable with Poulan part number 5074766339. They do not have any Pioneer modules in stock and the item is NLA.

Sorry, I tried.

Want to sell it?

Hello I know this is an old thread but today I made a Husqvarna 365 coil fit on a pioneer P61. Just slotted the one hole in the center of the coil towards the coil itself and made a piece work for the second mount. It works great and runs good. Way cheaper then trying to find the original coil for that saw when they were all bad for loosing spark. Bit mickey mouse but it works.

Do you have any pics of the 365 coil on the saw, I would love to see it.

I used a black unlimited coil but probably could have used a blue coil too. The second screw mount was to hold the coil back from pivoting towards the flywheel, I didn't want to try to weld a nut to the existing coil so came up with this idea. Seems to work good hasn't moved, and that stuff on the coil by the screw is seal all where I ground back the body of the coil but after finishing it I think I didn't have to grind back the body at all. Surprisingly runs awesome, before I finished it I was worrying if it would be way off time but nope doesn't kick back through the pull handle when starting, and runs great through all the rpm. I don't have a way to check the timing with a timing light etc. Just had the kill wire off to show the coil, other then that all works good when connected.

I think you did a great job,if I have a coil problem now I know what to do.It is about impossible to find a correct pioneer coil for these saws.Thank you for the pic and info.

Thanks p61 western, yea was looking online for the proper coil but all used ones were sold out and didn't want to pay 100 up to 200 used for one that would probably quit too. There are 365 type coils on ebay for 15 dollars, Chinese though but heard they work okay. I might buy some.
