We have a bit of a cold spell here right now, -25C at the moment.
Got to thinking about how rare it is to have a weather that one can be happy with, working in the woods.
If it's not cold it's too hot or rainy. Or dry. After a few weeks of good weather in spring the damn bugs wake up.
After a few weeks of good weather in fall the rain starts...The summer is just too hot, no good weeks in summertime.
Seems like there's quite few days in a year that I can say that the weather is fair and that I wouldn't change anything!
Is it just me?
Maybe I should work indoors?

I've been home for 3 days now. Was -25F this morning in town. Might not be fit for any living thing tomorrow either.
As usual, looking to God to provide this month. (Happens a lot)
But I have no doubts, He always comes through.

25-55 I'm a happy guy, rain snow hail don't much matter

Wind... me don't like the wind while cuttin

Did a quick dump and run monday its like 12-15 around here, dude was really concerned i wasn't wearing gloves. Just jeans t shirt and a filthy hoodie

I used to live in Western WA. That's butt cold for there.
I guess if you don't feel it and are not breaking digits off cuz they are frozen, more power to ya.

We have a switch that turns the wind on in November and off in April. Makes a mess with the snow. Not much fun to fight a tough wind that long.

How cold do they log in northern BC and AK?

I can remember falling timber not much below 0, I would have to periodically stop and build a fire to de-ice the carb until it it was fully warmed up and had all the moisture out.

Your humidity makes it feel colder there.

Think I may have gotten myself some frostbite in muh knee... getting the missus's batteries in took like 2 hours this morning... mostly me kneeling in snow and ice...

Didn't fall down at all... and it looks like frostbite... its ****ing cold out there....

I've never had a saw freeze up on me. It was -9 this morning. Wind chill around -25. Skidder fired right up (coolant block heater and jumper cables to juice up the batteries). Took about an hour for the grapple to open and close at regular speed. By noon it's was around 5 wind chill like -15. Saw ran like a champ as usual. Maybe it's the color of saw you guys run!

A 1/2 second squirt of GO juice gets my Deutz buzzing even at -20. No heaters involved as long as it was run the day before. I've cut down to -18 and have not had a carb ice up. Must be dry cold?

It was -25 this morning. I was playing carpenter in $1,000,000 house. Was too bloody hot in there.

In the last hour the temp has gone from +1 to -10. It probably won't be fit for man nor beast by morning.

I agree with Markus. There's about 7.2 perfect hours per year weather wise.

Its very damp out here, every morning we get another 1/4-1/2 of hoarfrost. Some of the stuff in the shady areas are starting to look like ninja stars.

With good batteries the skidder fires up all the way down to 10 without help. The excavator has just needed to turn over for about 30 sec, its a glow plug machine though, and the glow plugs arn't working right at the moment, still don't need ether though, she kinda burps and coughs a bit then roars to life.

I'm not too fussy. Was -10* this morning, now 20* and 50mph winds. The wind kinda sucks, but oh well.

The equipment isn't too fussy, fires up fine at most any temp we get here. My Bobcat is starting to get fussy, but the battery is about 10 yrs old.

When the humidity is high and you have sub zero temps, carbs can freeze up, but not here as its semi arid.
20 below in a dry area feels like 35 below in a humid enviro. The wind always makes the 'real feel' seem alot colder.

Yeah, I had to put on the -20* level of winter gear. 20& and 60mph wind is -5* according to the weather guessers, but it feels way colder.

Mine was an older Stihl 460.
My 441, 461, and 661 that Ive used in winter have never iced up.
Just that ole wore out piece of junk. Wasn't even my saw but I had to cut with it.

We get some damp cold. Definitely the worst. Usually when it's really cold here it's windy too. That north wind is sharp and dry. We get a little southerly wind that will feel damp. It could be 20 with that damp wind and it will chill you to the bone. Never shake it all day. On the other hand -10 with no wind is fine all day. The saw never gets brought in the house. I don't know if that's part of it. It moves from the truck to the garage and back so it's always in the cold.

When it dips below freezing is when I start hooking the quick coupler from the truck to the skidder. It starts so much easier that way. I give the batteries that extra boost only on days below 0. Yesterday I had everything set up for 20 minutes maybe before I fired it up. Normal days less then 10 minutes. I hate ether. Pretty sure the mechanic I had help me a few years ago blew my rings up with it. That was two days of -20 temps with -40 wind chills. The damn thing was down for nearly two weeks chasing a problem after that. Ended up pull starting after putting a lot of money in the wrong places and a bunch of blown out rings that revealed themselves a few weeks later. Still pissed me off. Oh and he burned my starter too. That's the second time I've called in back up in 5 years of wrenching on my skidder. The first time wasn't overly helpful either. The first question usually is " can we get this into a shop?" Nope I work on it here. You can too. It gets pricey to call a lowboy in to haul your machine to a shop to get fixed and back.

We had a couple days of -17, the next day it warmed up and we got 14" of snow. That's a bunch for this high Desert area. Then it started to rain, so now we have ground that's frozen about a foot down, a layer of slimy mud on top and standing ice water just looking for a place to go. It's a mess
