Anyone know of some good muffler's for a 357xp? When I purchased a muffler for my 350 build I had got a ported muffler that was just an empty can, seems its harder to find one like that for a 357xp. I received one ported muffler but it has a divider inside of it with a hole in the lower right corner. What's some good options for a muffler for a husqvarna 357xp?

I just put a side outlet behind the baffle. I got these from @Red97, and it's easy to install a screen with this type of deflector, if need be.

Or you can cut a hole in the front corner, bust out the baffle, and weld in a piece of pipe...

(This is the best sounding muffler mod, IMO.) IMG_2988.jpg

Damn...nice looking saws. Thanks for reply an info. That muffler on your husky 357, could you make another one like that? I dont have a welder, but could probably have access to one.

I couldnt find a am one without the baffle in it. Happen to know where I could find one?
The AM mufflers with the small pipe outlet in the front corner have no baffle. Just cut out the small pipe and added a larger one.

The ones with the oem style outlet on top do have a baffle.

Howdy-

I have a new aftermarket 357xp muffler that has the side tube outlet, and the one I received does have the baffle and the side tube extends into the front chamber about a 1/2", it (the tube) does not meet the baffle like a 371xp muffler. The saw runs really well with this, I didn't mod this AM muffler, and I like that it's not super loud. I bought this one as I didn't like the top outlet blowing hot gases near the plastic cylinder cover. The 45cc 346 has the same problem, and you can get a tube muffler for that one also, that version does not have the internal baffle. I don't understand why one would have a baffle??

Not true. I have a tube style exit AM muffler that does have a baffle. I ordered it in hopes it would be an empty can but was not the case. Think it was a Hyway brand iirc.

I've been wondering if there was an empty can style aftermarket muffler for this series of saw. I know the OEM choices stink. Huge baffle or catalytic with a huge baffle...

So what's the consensus? Is there a specific AM brand that makes an empty can muffler? I'm seeing conflicting reports here.

Same here, the one I received with a tube outlet has a baffle in it, I was hoping it wouldnt. This is the only one Ive found so far without baffle, I asked the seller and said, no baffle. http://www.ebay.com/itm/401195538960?ul_noapp=true Would have to wait a few weeks for it though

If you just put the outlet behind the baffle, it doesn't matter.
Shhhhh. .be very very quiet.
Let them hunt down an inferrior muffler that will rattle the back out the first time it comes loose.

Yeah it works good and the easiest with the best muffler. I wouldn't entertain the idea of an AM muffler when a have the real deal in my hand... Why??

I like the cutting of the tube idea the best I think, whats a good way to go about doing that? I picked up one of those am muffler without a baffle from that seller in Greece. Ill let you guys know how it looks, if I get it anytime soon. On my am muffler I used for my 350/346 I filed it flat, used a thin layer of three bond, should be ok, but should definitely keep an eye on it coming loose.

AM mufflers can come either with or without the baffle. Usually never know until you open the box.

Here's 2 solutions I did. First is like @cgraham1 did. Used a 254/55 deflector tat is NLA. Second is using a 288 deflector that is too big to fit where the smaller one does. Located it down low next to the hole in the baffle. both seem to work pretty good.

That's how my 2159 I ported is right now. Just a big hole and a deflector on the back side of the catalyst. It works but it's freaking LOUD. I did a 359 with a tube exit on the front side and cut out as much of the baffle as possible through the exhaust inlet and it sounded much nicer. I could cut with that saw with no ear protection and not mind it. Nice mellow bike like tone. The 2159 not so much. It sounds good with ear muffs on but it will make naked ears tingle.

If it were a Stihl, I would mostly agree with you but Huskys mufflers are nothing to write home about. The good/better AM stuff is on par with the OEM husky mufflers IMHO. I've been running the snot out of some 346's with Farmertec mufflers and they work just fine. At $50 for one oem or 5+ of the farmertecs it's an easy choice for that saw.
