I've been using this harness for 8 months or so now:

Bought it to save some $$ on a new harness and so far its been good. It may be uncomfortable to some but it's just as ok as the old weaver floating d i was using before it. My main concern is the quality and durability. There are no signs of wear but just the built-in mindset that cheap things aren't as quality have me wanting some input that yes the harness is quality and lasted me years or no that thing is sketchy, ya know. Anyone have this?
 
I've been using a singing rock harness like that for 7 or 8 years, no problems. Probably 300-400 hrs in it. No signs of wear. I'm sure the expensive stuff is better in many ways, but it gets the job done and it's light.

You shouldn't go that long in a harness man.
3-4 years absolute max. Either rebuild it or retire it. That harness has made its money and then some.

Think of it as time for an upgrade!
 
Wow, I went and got my harness out and sat down with it. Manufactured in 6/2004! The nylon is looking a little faded in a few spots. Couple small frayed spots around the buckles. Still really solid and looks great though. Jeez tho, 13 years old. They say 7 years max on nylon. Time to go shopping. Thanks david1332.

You should rebuild them after 3 or 4 years. Life support atlEast.

Let me know if you would like a harness recommendation. Let me know what you're looking for andante your budget and I'm sure I can find one you'll like .
 
If appreciate any recommendations. I was reading about how nylon loses elesticity after a few years. I'm looking to hopefully spend under $200.
Maybe another singing rock harness?

I'm only a part time climber. Maybe 5-25 trees a year helping friends and friends of friends. I pay for my gear and make a little beer money. Although this years been busy so far, already taken down 12 and trimmed 2 this year. I usually only carry a little echo top handle saw, a hand saw, a lanyard and either a second lanyard or a climbing rope. Try to keep the gear to a minimum. Rarely spend more than a couple hours in a tree. Don't need all the comfort and bells and whistles of the nicer harness. I'm in the black this year, I just got myself a brandy new ms362, time for a new harness. If appreciate any advice.

Spend $300 and get the buckingham rebellion if you're on a budget . You'll thank me the 1st time you wear it. Its economical yet super comfortable and has a lot of options for gear attachment. I also wear a set of the MCRS suspenders since I have a large Saw on my belt fairly often, and plus it tends my Rope Runner fairly well.


Bottom line is e more you spend the better and more comfortable you'll be. Not saying go and spend $600 on the most expensive harness out there, but somewhere in the middle is much better than bottom line.


The next step up from the rebellion at $300 is the new Notch Sentinal harness for $379. Then I'd say the MCRS, Monkey Beaver Belt and the TreeMotion are all top of the line. All around $500 btw

I've had this harness for close to a year and have had no issues. It adjusts by cinching down as tight as you want to go so you'll never be loose from a belt with holes that don't tighten to your exact size. It's probably not as padded as the more expensive harnesses. But I have climbed probably 50 trees or more in the past year and it has been satisfactory.
 
My local shop had some Buckingham Buckcats in that I looked at. Amazing how stiff the webbing is on my 13 year old Singing Rock saddle is in comparison, even though it still looks good. I'm sure if I had a new one to compare it to that I would see it is faded as well. I was reading how the ozone in the air is primarily what attacks the nylon. They called today and said they got my size in so I'm going to go get it tomorrow. Wilson Hardware in Rochester, NY rocks.
