Best Rope Storage

I'm looking to get some rope bags to keep my lines in, right now I keep my climb lines in a duffle bag and my rigging lines in a 25 gallon tub.. thinking about just getting some 5 gallon home depot buckets and cutting a 6 inch hole in the lid... Anyone got any recommendations? Thanks

I use one of these rope tarps https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=1958 it works great. Throw the tarp down, flake the rope on it and when you're done slide the rope inside the pouch and roll it up like a taco. I use a piece of bungee cord wrapped around and clipped with a biner to hold everything in there so I can carry it solo or attach it to my other gear bags. When you're ready to go just unclip, roll the tarp out and its already on the ground flaked ready to work.

thanks for the link man...that idea would be able good for transportation too, it won't take up as much space as buckets...

METOLIUS Ropemaster Rope Bag - Eastern Mountain SportsYou can get rope storage bags with tarps connected to them. Alot of rock climbers use them, so you should be able to get them anywhere that sells rock climbing gear.

I bought some arbormax ( i think) bags from sheril tree on sale for $12 a couple years ago. Not the best, but cheap.

Any concern about storing rope in bags or buckets, since they don't breath?

I got extra big ammo cans, mortars and big stuff. I leave them open to let air in. Though this time of year, you have to worry about rodents. I heavy vinyl bags, but I worry about rot.

I've been use the rope boss bag by sherrill. I believe they are like $45 for the 250' and I've been very happy with them so far. They are stiff and durable and can be tossed off a crane all day without blowing the seams apart. Others may have different experiences but they've done well for me.

I worked for a guy who stores rigging lines in small plastic trash buckets like the big ones just smaller. I wasn't a fan as if they tip over the rope falls out and they are hard so you cant just toss them around like a rope bag.

Unless you're using a mesh rope bag, I can't say regular rope bags breath much. I use 5-gallon buckets with lids except when the ropes get damp or wet, then I hang 'em to dry. True, ya' can't toss the buckets around much without breaking them, but they stack very well and I mark the lids so I know what's inside. Don't have to worry about putting the "X" rope in the "Y" bucket ... just throw the right lid on when gathering up your gear at day's end. 200' of 1/2" rope easily fits in a 5-gal. bucket.

Let me add that I'm a part-time hack, so my ropes spend more time stored (and stacked) than they get used. And they slide easy in the bed of my pickup when it's time to load up my gear.

Climbing gear I use a metolius haul pack. They're extremely durable and well made. I have the express model and holds 150' line, 2 throwline cubes, saddle with all the gear and handsaw. Top pocket for ascenders and gloves, etc. The sentinel is the next size up and is a bit bigger, could get a longer line and helmet in too.
Rigging rope I like any decent rope bag that stands up on its own. The forestor products made one holds 200' of 9/16" and is like $30. I used to use 5gal buckets but they tend to roll away on steep ground and can be cumbersome trying to stuff in a toolbox. They're a good, cheap option though. Seen lots of folks use rubbermaid bins which look nice for keeping the rigging line tangle free constantly while lowering, but same issue for toolbox space for me.

This concerns me slightly. I wouldn't want to be using this on the job with guys dragging things to the chipper. Too high of a chance of a rope getting dragged to the chipper.

i use a milk create they are pretty good keeps from doesn't let all th dirt and wood chips settle in the bottom like a rope bag does.
