I'm having a boundary issue with my neighbor. A friend of hers she has to do some of her yard work is trespassing on my property and killing my grass and trees with a powerful herbicide.
I'm still contemplating the best way to handle replacement of the trees. Suggestions on that would be helpful, too.

To try to prevent this from happening in the future, I'm thinking of putting up some kind of fence - something like a string between fence posts with "NO Trespassing" strung on it, to a solid 6' cedar fence.
I had a surveyor come out yesterday so the boundaries are clearly defined all the way around... and it's exactly where I expected it to be. The trees and grass he killed are a good 8' from the line.

So, please, give me some fence ideas. Something relatively low maintenance.
Or, do you think a fence would be a big waste of money?
I'm wanting to protect the rest of my 12' Green Giants.

I'm seriously considering this on a single fence post:

Low maintenance and low cost :D

This is what the fool did to my yard. Btw, the dead tree stub, is a remnant of the one he (allegedly) killed last year.
The red X on the left of the picture is the true pin, the other is a pipe the previous neighbor pounded into the ground.
Neighbor's property only goes back half as far as mine does.
I'd like to put an old fashioned-looking fieldstone "wall," just two or three rocks tall, going to the back corner.
No neighbor, just corn/soy field back there.

Took these last week. This week the poor arb looks twice as bad.

Btw, I put up those fence posts and flagging tape when I planted the little cedars - thought that would get the message across to "Stay Away!" Apparently not.

Actually, I was looking at this as a possibility.. but what would you attach it to? What would be the easiest way to put this up?
Would be expensive though... $1,000 for 100'.
$90 for 6' cedar fence, per 8' section... uninstalled.
I think I could put up the bamboo myself - drive in metal fence posts every 4' and tie the bamboo to them.
I know bamboo would be relatively maintenance free and virtually indestructible.
Would this work?

I think he meant for you to plant bamboo,
Jeff

That is why I suggested oleander,
Jeff :)
I love the suggestion of oleander, it's beautiful and would serve the purpose well... just like my Green Giant arbs were supposed to. What I need is an impenetrable barrier. He's liable to kill anything I plant as a privacy hedge.
Burning bush would work too, grows fast and tall, but, again, I want something that can't be killed.

Your neighbor sucks, so plant 'bougainvillea',
Jeff

bougainvillea won't work, I'm in zone 7. :(
It's not really the neighbors, it's her friend doing the damage... although she is ultimately responsible since he was working for her.

I like this stuff, but I'd have to make some sort of frame for it... maybe steel fence posts with small diameter pvc pipe lashed to it?

Too bad you're having these issues with a neighbour. Parent's house had fence issues with neighbours too.
I would put up a chain-link fence right along the property line.
Then send a card in her mail box asking that she please not use deadly chemicals on or near my trees.
You could grow vines into it, plant cedars along it for privacy etc.
That way no one will cross the line and there will be no confusion on who owns what.

Thats why i suggested root guard before planting the bamboo.

Next option would be pyrocantha, natures barbed wire.

Or black locust and train it into a hedge
I love the black locust, especially the fragrant flowers, but I hate thorns.
I like the idea of a living fence... I'll have to explore that some more. :)

The thing that scares me though is that anything live might "accidentally" get sprayed with the herbicide from the other side.

Decided to go with the mesh, in brown. I just bought a 50' x 4' piece to see if it will work - if not, I can use it on the porch for shade.
Zero maintenance and hopefully, easy to install. I think a fence post every 4' should be good.
We'll see. :drinkingcoffee:
And it can't be killed. ;)

I think the bamboo would have been better, but there was a bad review on the 4' piece, said it was short. I think 6' x 8' sections would have been to heavy for me to put up by myself.
