If only the 461 had the air induction of the 261.
362 or 441 to pair with my 261?

I had a like new 362 but after I got a similar condition 361 and had Terry Landrum do whatever it is he does to 361s, I sold the 362 and have never looked back. I still have an ugly 362 that I keep as a loaner.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll need to look into the 462 some more but it does seem like that might be perfect...any idea when it will be released? A quick google search told me February of 2018? Would be a perfect birthday gift to myself if so
I'm guessing the 462 will be north of $1000...?
Im going to research some of the Husky recommendations as well, although I prefer stick with one brand just for simplicity/parts and the fact there is a Stihl dealer right down the road next to the grocery store/TSC that we shop at regularly anyway...Im not even sure where the nearest Husky dealer is.
I'm in no rush by any means, I have the 261 (yes it is an Mtronic and Ive been very happy with it) as well as a 260, so Im making do just fine for what I do...however if the 462 is going to be 1 year+ before release I'll probably pick something up instead of waiting.
No real telling on release date on the states. Seems pretty likely that it'll be less than a year though. Same story on the price; in Germany they're hitting the shelf at just under what the 461 is selling for, but who knows how that'll translate to our prices.
I hear you on the parts/dealer support. I have one Husky, and it's a great saw, but I too have to travel a long way to get to a dealer, probably passing a dozen Stihl dealers on the way.

I have a 441rcm and I would definitely go with that over the 461. They are super smooth to run, much better filtration and always in tune.

What about a Dolmar 7910? Can outcut the 441 at around the same weight for less cash. Really nice used one in the classifieds too...

I'd say a 440/441/460/461. Have a fleet of 026/26X saws for my first choice go to saw, then a MS440 and a 038 MagII for the larger needs, and a Husky 288 for the biggest stuff. Really like my 036/MS36X saws, but they seem to say home more than they find a log.

You could be waiting a while on a 462, Stihl probably won't release it
if there is a lot of the 461 saws still on the shelves.
Husqvarna 576 should be a solid saw, as an alternative, slightly lighter,
slightly less power, and a good brand too.

Skip the 362. There's not enough gap between it and your 261.
The gap depends on where you set them on the floor.........
I agree. My Stihl 046 fills the gap without breathing hard. But, so does my Echo CS-670 and my Makita 6401 with a BBK. When those seem a bit weak (which is rare indeed), I pick up my Stihl 064 AV and hold on for dear life.

+1. I've had 362cm for a while and happy with it. Recently bought the new 261c powerhead because I have .325 bars and chains. I've use ported 046 the most w 20 and 25. If I HAD to thin the herd, probably 261, ported 046 and ported 661. Oh and the old 028 on tractor .

Agreed, Remember that Brad takes big steps and those are bigger than mine. I think there is a jump between the 261 and a 361. I know there is a step between my 026 PRO and my MS 361. If I had a 362, I'd be very happy with it. Meanwhile, how could I ever pitch my 361?

I have a 361 and a 362RCM. I like both and even though they are very close in displacement they have totally different characteristics. The 362 has more low end torque and the 361 is a screamer. I plan on keeping both

Overall I was originally leaning more towards the 362 simply because its $200+ cheaper and lighter weight...but dont want to spend the money if theres no appreciable difference upwards from the 261. Now the 462 has really piqued my interest though...if I knew exactly when to expect its release it would be an easy decision but dont want to wait past next April or so when I start cutting that years firewood.

I have a 261(non-MTronic) the 362 and 441 which are MTronic. The 362 IMHO is a definite step up in power over the 261 and the 441 has more than the 362. They all have a place in the stable. I'm happy to have them all

Just wanted to give an update...a friend/coworker of mine brought in his 441 and let me take it home for a few days. I ran a tank through it bucking wood out of my pile...
Wow, the difference in power from the 261 is incredible, it cuts through the big red oaks like butter. Its noticeably heavier but when Im just going down a line bucking up the large log its not super noticeable, once I was on the throttle cutting into the wood the weight is on the bar more so than my arms, it just pushes through on its own very nice.
Unfortunately on the smaller logs (I cut from a pile thats dropped on my property, so Im constantly going from very large diameter logs to tiny logs and everything in between when I cut) I found it tiring, it zipped though super fast then I was lifting it 24" down to the next cut more often.
Another thing, I use the bar/mark on the saw as a measuring stick for where to make my next cut so I make the cut, then put the saw 90 degrees so its parallel with the wood, then back to perpendicular to make the cut. That was tiring with the 441 as well, constantly swinging it back and forth.
Overall totally sweet saw, but its got some heft to it.
I wasnt really considering the Huskys because I thought the nearest dealer was a ways away, but with a little googling I found out a nearby forge/fireplace shop carries them, its about 10 minutes further than the Stihl dealer, so not a big deal. Ive been reading about the Husqvarna 562XP quite a bit...I understand its the equivalent to the Stihl 362 in terms of weight/engine size...its $60 cheaper locally ($699 vs $759 for the Stihl) so not enough to sway me one way or another.
Anyway Im going to go handle the 562xp and see what I think. Depending how I like it I think Ill spring for either that or the ms362.
