Close to the clutch cover....just like the one that just sold?

Kevin

I have two like that - close to the clutch cover and just stops. Edit - I have one here like that, and one in the mail. The one in the mail certainly appears to be the same based on the pictures.

Does anyone have any vintage literature with a full wrap pictured?

I think perhaps we're geting into the same phenomena that befell the 80/90. There were jobbers hired by Tilton that fitted the full-wraps onto the saws once they hit the continent and they were not clones of each other. I have myself two different full-wraps on those saws; one is a larger diameter aluminum affair that terminates at the clutch side case with the unobtainium AV mount. The other is a steel full-wrap of smaller diameter that terminates on the clutch side with the unobtainium AV mount. Both wraps fit perfectly, but are very different animals in your hands.

I therefore don't think it wasn't important to Tilton that they were exact clones of ea other, but that the logger got a full-wrap to work with. In the Husky 2100....all the full-wraps were the same, but the fasteners used in the full-wraps were SAE and not metric.....more to my theory of jobbers in the US fitting the full-wraps but to tighter spec than J'reds. And honestly, that full-wrap that came on the 111S is a whoring huge pig thing only suited for a lumber milling machine. Dragging that saw around through PNW woods brush and underbrush would have been a nightmare.

If we agree that the full-wrap on the 111S just stopped short of the clutch cover, my theory is that the J'reds engineers thought the full-wrap more stable to terminate there with a AV mount like they did on the 80/90's. What I have never seen is a 801 with a full-wrap fitted when new. I have no idea if that was ever a Tilton/dealer option on that saw. I guess if Eric could produce a brochure with one, that would be that...lol.

Wow...thanks Eric! I had no idea there was a 81 (maybe I did, but don't remember...lol)! The louvered mufflers were either louvered on the top or the bottom...I've seen both and I own a bottom louvered 80. They were considered more free flowing then the standard mufflers.

That full-wrap pic that Eric posted is the larger diameter handle-aluminum. That black on there isn't really comventional paint either...very thin, durable finish of some kind...possibly anodized.

451e is a great little saw! A shorter bar would be better. I don't think a $100 on a good running 451e is a bad price. I would put a set of points in the 49sp also.
Thanks Beavis. Where would I get a set of new points for the 49SP? I didn't think new ignition parts for it were available, hence the universal-fit electronic module put on by a shop out here (and not very well-fitted, I might add, looks like Homer Simpson did it LOL). I'd love to get rid of it and go back to the original configuration if possible.

Finding parts is tough. New old stock does pop up on eBay. Usually the points on these saws just need a good cleaning once every 15 years or so. I have a box of nos stuff at the shop. May have a set of points. Won't get back there for a week or more though.

The good news is although the parts are NLA, many J'reds shared the same parts like points/condenser. So for awhile at least, there are still a fair number of point sets out there.

Except.......wait for it...........wait........the 49SP. It didn't share any ign parts with any other Jonsereds except the spark plug and the kill switch. No where near as robust ign as the 52/621/80/90.......however they did seem to hold up well and as beevis said the points can be brought back 2-3 times at least as long as the pitting/burning isn't to deep....can't file through the hard contacts...if you do it's over for that set. Sometimes they really aren't in bad shape just oxidized from sitting in which case just light sanding and setting the gap will get you back in business.

Wow, I had no idea the 49sp didn’t share a point set with anyone else. Even the 621 does. Well at least in their efforts to ‘economize’, the 49sp points held up anyway!
