Is the MS251 a good step up from a 180?

I have a chance to get a MS251 Wood Boss, that's only been used since November. Is this a good step up from my MS180, or should I go for something in the Farm & Ranch line? I ask that because I've been drooling over the MS271, but there is a huge price difference.

You guys seem to be a huge wealth of knowledge, so I value your opinions.

My uses are, I help cut fire wood for families that need it, as well help my father-in-law cut his fire wood. I trim trees, clear lots and also help when storms cause damage. I'm by no means a pro logger.

What kind of money for the 251? Are you trying to stay with Stihl?

$225 for the 251,and I'd prefer a Stihl. I've tried my father-in-law's 445 and 450 Huskys and I just don't care for them. My 180 replaced a Mac 3516 and man'o man what a difference.

I got to handle a MS241 and fell in love. It feels not much heavier than my 180's, but had a lot more power and seems to be built a lot better.

I think I may just pass on the 251 and put that cash towards a 241. I'll drop a hint to the wife since my birthday is in April lol

MS241 is a great choice! If it's in the budget, always get the pro saw. Metal cases, stronger gears ect... If you're a guy who keeps saws a long time you will get your invest back with the pro saw. On the other hand, if you decide to go with a cheaper saw, I would definitely go ms250 over the 251. Tried and true. Great saw for the money!

Ill definitely be keeping it! I try to even feed them well. I use 99 octane, ethanol free gas and only Stihl synthetic oil. I watched a video on the 241 and I liked the idea of the metal case. Fall & winter I use them almost every day. So I want a saw that will be with me for years.
