They have now been out a few years. There are a ton of super split info threads out there but not much as far as split second info. Anybody been running one for extended periods? Issues? Likes or dislikes?

Thanks! I've watched his you tube videos but that other site doesn't seem to come up on searches.

Those Split Seconds are turning out to be very reliable, seems just as good or better than a SS and have some features that make them easier to use over a SS...

I've not run a split Second, but I have watched them numerous times at shows, although I have run a Super Split...

So I just took a peek at the Split Second site. Looks like price is $3k unless I misread. That would be the same if not a bit more than the SS..? While I see it does have some different features, I cant say myself they appear worthy of choosing over near 40 years of proven service the SS brings to the table.

My .02

Kinda why I have been wrestling with it. I know that there are some people with 10+ thousand cords on their SS's out there. But I also like the idea of the log lift as I split by myself a lot. Its a few hundred dollars cheaper but if I added the package with the lift and such it's the same. I can also recoup most of the shipping with using my rewards visa as my primary payment form and I don't think SS takes cards. I don't mind spending cash and I guess $120 ain't a ton when your looking at spending $3500 but I'm weird cheap.

I'm about 40 minutes south west of you.

You can buy a SS on plastic. You have to tell them that's how you want to pay. I wouldn't have done it any other way considering the nature and scope of the purchase.

Cool. I didn't see it on their site. I'll give them a call.

The other item I had considered was re-sale if I ever dump it. You hardly ever see an SS for sale and when it do it moves quick.

Talked to Connor and there was no problem with the plastic. Works out good for me as it pays most of my shipping. Got the HD model and it should be here in a couple of weeks.

Four years with the SSHD.
No regrets.
I did supplement it with a hydraulic splitter w/log lift for a time.
Not the case now, so I may have to noodle the bigger ones to lift them.
The kinetic splitter experience is a parallel dimension...View attachment 635958Wait, wait, wrong photo...

I noodle the bigger stuff, or trade it to a buddy that will either mill it or wrestle it. 6 to 16" is what I spec when I buy logs for splitting. Much easier for me to work with.

Thanks Sawyer Rob for keeping the posts on track with the topic that was asked about! Whenever there is talk about kinetics or interest in one it always turns into a super split thread. They have not upgraded anything for years or even thought about making any accessories to help people use their machine. Look how long it took for them to upgrade the bearing that runs on top of the beam, they sold all you guys a bunch of those. I would think Paul and Connor would want to come up with new ideas to help the kinetic users, but no same old stuff, cmon........no log lift yet, really!!! I applaud Split Second in trying to help the kinetic community, even if all you guys wont give them a chance! The Split Seconds are actually badass splitters!SS_loglift_side.jpg

Good to hear you love you Split Second.
It has been several years since others have tried and failed to compete due to rack and pinion problems, which customers got stuck dealing with.
Once word gets out that the rack and pinion are reliable, then the Split Second would be an obvious choice having, as you said, addressed several other issues head on. The two major ones being somewhat top heavy and what I would call a poor towing set up for SS. I have never seen or used it, but certainly not as nice as the retractable hitch shown on Split Seconds website.
The Split Second website is very nice and informative.
I was looking for an electric motor option but did not see one. They mention running one indoors in a well ventilated space. They also include a testimonial with three people using it, one operating, one loading, and one handling split wood. That would be like three people driving a car. It might work for a little while.
I'm all for innovation and improvement, but the basics come first.
There is also a fairy tale kind of story here. The little guy, the family corner store competing against the corporate big money box store world. The buy local, buy American, whatever you want to call it... mostly buy based on quality, not cost alone, as it is a long term purchase.
Split Second seems to fall somewhere in-between father/son operation...box store/franchise mutant genetics.
If they, Split Second, have earned your support based on performance then they have accomplished what many have failed to do.
From your post, you have my attention, and I would like to run one. Thanks...
