Stihl 041AV recoil

I’ve Gta be missing a part here...... what part of this is supposed to grab the flywheel? This plastic gear looking thing looks like it’s supposed to be engaged by another “gear” type on the recoil.

Is this the wrong recoil for this flywheel?

It is there. the two metal dogs shift out when pulled and dig into the plastic ring.

called a "Fairbanks Morse" starter.

Thanks Harley..... these ears aren’t goi g out and grabbing that plastic ring.

Hard to tell on that diagram..... I have this random spring. I assumed it went under the cap washer to hold pressure downwards.

Got it! Was just missing a washer..... I guess the excess clearance wasn’t forcing it to work properly. Thanks again Harley.

pull it out with a screwdriver and bang a new one in with a rubber mallet "said the cardinal to the quire boy" ;o)

The FBMorse recoil works on friction, do no oil or lube the friction washers as they need to be clean and dry to work correctly.
