Opened the first one today. Now I just have to figure out how to attach the backs. I continue to be amazed at the finish of the cuts, much smoother than I ever thought they would be.

Gonna make some sweet benches! Here's what we did for my buddy's benches. Had some Poplar laying around so we built a Fe benches and a picnic table.

Right now I am planning on using the half logs one for the seat and one for the backrest. With some small half rounds for legs. Just how to attach the backs.
That's why we just decided to do ours this way. We plan on doing more so who knows what we'll come up with. You may be able to buy some pre-fabbed bracket kits.

Beautiful. The first bench I made I did mortise and tenon and it turned out much easier than I thought, it took me four hours from slabs to sitting on it. I lost most of those pics, if I can find one I'll post it. My fire pit benches are similar to the ones above. The next set I'm going to mount the bench to an 18" tall 30" round like the pic above. Then I'm going to use galvanized plumbing pipe with elbows to mount the back. They make the threaded pipe brackets with a flange and four bolt holes, that's what I'm going to screw into the wood.

Those are beautiful slabs, will cedar hold the pink in forever or will they turn when dry?

I made potting benches in my wifes shed out of Fir. They turned so pink most people ask if they are Ceder. They are out of the sunlight and are about 2 years old, and show no sign of fading. I used a wipe on poly to cover them. I don't know how Cedar holds up to the sunlight. I made an out side bench for my neighbor out of Dawn Redwood and in six months it was gray, Joe.

I plan on putting a coat of poly on the seat and back rest to protect it some. Not sure how the color will hold up over time.

It may gray on you. The poly will keep them from fading for a bit I guess.
They almost look too nice to put outside.
Sure are solid looking. Good job on them.

Come tell people around here that. Have them for sale at $500 and can't get an offer.
For some crazy reason, people never want to pay the craftsman. If that was sitting in a "vintage" or "craft" store, people would be slobbering all over it and buying them like crazy! Piss on them. Really nice set BTW!
