big oak

I have this oak that the gypsy mouths killed last year. 10' around the bottom and close to the house. How much do you think it would cost to put it on the ground, no clean up.

Going by the pic I would guess the guys I work for would charge in between 1,200 and 2,500. It's tough to tell, but it looks like they might be near 80-90' tall. W/out seeing the the truck access it's tough to tell if it needs to climbed or not. These are NJ prices

How much room is there back there? On the other side of the trees? You said close to house, but is there a big yard? Can pieces be bombed out or do they need lowered? For that matter is there room to drop the whole tree with 2 cuts? Will the pieces need to be picked with a crane? Or somewhere in between. All leading to drastically different costs.

With all that going on, I would lower it cause I'm not buying a septic system "***** deal" ! Unfortunately in Ar that tree pieced down and cleaned up wouldn't bring what your area charges just to put on the ground. I would bid it assuming it is 32" dbh at 1750.00 and the tree would be done for 750 to a thousand and yes that is cleaned up. Which is why I now am part time I don't want to work that hard for peanuts .

A few years ago we had 2 big trees taken out at my moms. A tall poplar that was right around 40" dbh and a silver maple that went up into 2 large beams each of which was 24" diameter where they split off from the main trunk. There was room to get an 80' bucket truck close enough to not have to climb. Each tree had quite a bit that needed lowered with ropes. I helped pile brush and they brought a bobcat with grapple to run brush out into our field 200 yards away (I only asked they drop it so I was more than happy with this!) All logs I grabbed with our tractor with forks and quickly moved them out to my log pile. The guy quoted $1200. 2 guys were there for about 5 hours and I thought it was a fair deal.

just a update i have a company coming with a 60' lift 1,250 to put it on the ground and take the top out of one next to the big one.

Too bad you can't just drop it. Looks like lots of room.
How deep are your septic bed pipes.? Mine are way down like 4-5 feet.
I would take that other tree right down too. No point topping it and watching it grow all weird and possibly dangerous branching out later.

Tanks are only 10 to 12 inches, same on pipes. i do plane on removing the other tree but i'm not as young as i used to be. it's going to take me a bit to clean this mess up and i figure standing up is better than lying on the ground. i can drop a 25' stick later next year or when ever.

You may get a good price from the arborist on taking both down at once. Then they're done.
Get lots of wood pallets to stack the future firewood on in small log form, then later on you can block it up and split and stack as you wish.
