I have an hybrid 064/066 that i bought that still has the original 1300 coil,so maybe just luck of the draw.
Don't know if the DLA one is better than the OEM,but i know it is a lot cheaper.
Maybe send them a msg and ask them.
Yes you can fit the better "common coil" but you need a different wheel that i did have and use.

Hi guys. I put the new coil in today and now I have strong spark (coil part number 0000 400 1300) but I pulled and pulled and not a thing happened !. Any ideas for getting this saw going so I can get rid of it ? Thanks

I still say spark problem.
Just because it sparks outside cylinder,it may not under compression.Should jump at least a 5mm gap out of the cylinder.
In saying that it might be badly flooded.
Let saw dry out,clean/dry plug.
Next time you go to start it put some fuel straight down the carb throat and don't use choke.
Pull saw over with lever in RUN position and see if it pops.
Cheers Chris.

I'll give it a try tomorrow night and let you know how i go. I would paint it lemon yellow and burn it in the backyard if it hadn't cost me almost $800 in the last month or so !. I have always been a supporter of stihl chainsaws and bought the 064 because everyone says good things about them (power to weight ect) but I don't know if I would buy another one !

Yeh mate i put the plug from my running saw into the 064 put fuel down the carb as you suggested and gave it a try. The saw had been sitting on the bench with the plug out and a rag over it for 2 days so it had to be dry !, all that happened was that the saw turned over faster than usual for the first 4-5 pulls then back to doing nothing !, did not fire or try to run. I did notice that there was a mist/vapor coming out of the air filter side of the carb while I was pulling it over ?, crank case seals ???. That's about all that is left !. I have a new plug, new coil (matched to the 1201a flywheel), strong bright blue spark (stronger than the spark of any of my other saws), 130 psi compression (top end), wet plug and even fuel down the carb, the exhaust is clear, the chain brake is off. ??. I don't know what else other than timing or crankcase compression is left !. The key in the flywheel is good so im assuming that the timing is right ?, how can I check the crankcase compression ? Thanks

Compression seems low but should still pop.
Hard to explain things on the net some times.
You have my number if you want to give me a ring.
Depending on my work hours I may or may not be able to talk for long.
Trying my best for you though Chris lol.

Hold the throttle wide open no choke and see what happens.

I recently tried swapping mismatched coils on my d'oh64, sith "new" coil it would barely idle at full throttle. Cause timing issues. I have the other wheel to match said coil, but too lazy too pull it

Put the old one back in and re routed the wiring and the ****ing thing finally runs like it should... so far I've gone through everything but the oiler on it.

I have tried doing that again and stihl nothing happens. I have put it down to the timing as everything else is right and should work !, can anyone tell me how to set the timing on the 064 with the piston at TDC and the saw not running (what should the coil line up with) ? Thanks

Yeh 1201a flywheel and 1300 coil. I took a few measurements today and turns out that the 1300 coil distance from the center of the pickup to the outside mounting bolt hole is around 2mm less than the original bosch coil center distance !, so I got a file and slotted the mounting hole around 2mm, (I thought I would give it a try) bolted the 1300 coil on (again) pulled the cord and it fired !, almost tryed to run.

The coil is a aftermarket replacement for part number 0000 400 1300 (same as the coil that was on the saw when I got it and it was running great). Now that I have isolated the problem and I am slotting the mounting hole to advance the timing till the saw runs the question i have is why do I need to change the timing now when the last coil (exactly the same) ran great before it died (or is it not dead ?). Why is the timing out now ???, key is good, flywheel is good.

Thanks, I just wanted to try the aftermarket (cheaper) coil to see if I could sort out the saw (get it running), is there anything that should line up (coil/flywheel ect) at TDC to set the timing ?. I'm planning on replacing the coil with a better quality item and throwing the one that I'm playing with now, I would rather stick with original parts but as you would know are only available second hand and apparently they are prone to failure ?, I have found this coil (new with 2 year warranty). What would you recommend ? ThanksScreenshot_2018-05-15-11-04-20.png Screenshot_2018-05-15-11-05-17.png

I thought VEC was the only AM coil you could get-but wrong again.
Can you put up a pic of the coil you bought?Which I thought was a VEC anyway.
Do you still need a pic of my saw or do you know you are on the right track?
Cheers,Chris.

This is the coil that I bought. Advertised as high quality but from what I can work out it seems like crap !. Nah I don't think that i need a picture but I don't know what is supposed to line up at TDC to set the timing ?. Is the VEC stuff good quality ? ThanksScreenshot_2018-05-15-20-13-16.png
