I was thinking about buying some porting tools. I see a lot of used Foredom tools on ebay. I was wondering what model to look for. I see everyone likes the CC182 for the right angle hand piece. I was also wondering what bits to start with. This is just for my saws. I do not want to do it for a living.

I am interested in this as well. I just like to tinker with stuff.

I got tired of crappy "carbide" burrs that you get from Amazon or ebay and started buying actual carbide burrs from carbide depot. It's nice that their standard shipping is sometimes 1 day.

Most fastener and welding supply stores carry a top of the line brand of burr. You think $20 each is a little steep, but I've been using the same two burrs to grind cylinders and gut mufflers for over 3 years now. They're still sharp and I have no plans to replace them any time soon.

$20 each is steep when you an get them for 10-15 each with 7 dollars for shipping and they have special profiles, extended reach, and aluminum specific ones.

A lot of good advice from everyone. I think I will buy a used Foredom off eBay. But look for good burs. I mainly want to clean up the transfers and exhaust port. Don’t know if I should clean up the intake port or leave it rough

I have 3 used Foredoms I bought on Ebay been using them for years. Only trouble I've had was with inner drive cable breaking in the 39" flex shaft. They will break when you hang a Burr.
Look for a Grobet (rebranded Foredom). I bought a new one for around $100.00 IIRC 5 yrs. ago. Came with foot pedal, flex shaft and #30 handpiece.

How do you widen the transfer ports without the 90 degree grinder?

I been building, porting heads for drag race engines since I was 16yo I’m. I been porting dirtbike engines for 25 years. I’m not new to porting. I asked a question on how you chamfer the transfer ports.

Use a small pencil style handpiece and a ball stone or ball diamond burr to chamfer the port edges. I have a 3/8” diameter 320 grit diamond I like to use.

I’ve seen people be successful with widening and raising transfer ports with the side of a cutoff wheel in a straight handpiece. It take a lot of time and patients but it can be done. Still a 90 deg handpiece allows for a lot more freedom on port shape and direction.

I seen and measured the 2100 cylinder that was ported by a husky rep. I made changes to a few husky dirtbikes one at a time. On my final bike I did all the changes in the ports one shot. Open up the transfers, raise the exhaust port, widen it, arch it, lower the intake port, which changed the port timing, polish it all. Advance the timing. The engine reaction time to the throttle movement was right there. It’s like the engine knew you were going to rev it ahead of time. The mili second response.
Drag racing down the straights she beat everything. Me and the oldtimers would laugh watching this old 81 husky 250 cr bike. My point is I hear a lot of people say porting doesn’t work. Just a little porting goes a long way.
