I owned a 440 some years ago, and while it was a nice performer for me it a smaller saw than the 034. The 440 I would consider a light duty saw that would do well with a 16 inch bar at most while the 034 is gonna give you the ability to run a longer bar and have more power.
Depends on what your needs are, but I would say the 034 is a good straight up trade assuming both are in working order.

AV is anti-vibe, but they both have it so it means nothing in that regard.
That’s what I was thinking but was not sure. I picked up the Saw last night it’s a screamer only thing it needs a chain tensioner ( $5 part ) I did not tread the husqvarna for it I gave $140 for it The guy started acting a little Squirrley before I left to go get it ( he was over a hour drive)so I took cash with me I have a lot of firewood to cut And didn’t Want to have any headaches right now. Getting the tensioner today and let her eat. Thanks for all of you guys help greatly appreciated

I think early ones had front tensioners, later side ones like the 036. Had to replace a side one on a 036. Never had to replace a front one on any saw. The front ones are a PITA but more durable.

P.S. You will love that saw for firewood. The 034/036 series just feel great in your hands. Balance is about perfect w/20" bar. Very easy to work on.

The kid took it apart and lost the tensioner and I thought the sprocket seemed a little funky last night so I pulled it off this morning he put a new clutch on it but put the bearing back in with no needle bearings in it so I bought that today was $4 should have the tensioner screw here in a day or two I’ll be out cutting wood with it

Soundds like you got a good deal. You need a spare sprocket and needle bearing.

There's and upgraded 1125 series clutch drum and sprocket for the MS360.

It's basically and 1128 clutch (044/046/440/460) and needle bearing, and it's much more durable. Fits right on there.

The only issue is that it accepts large Stihl spline sprockets, not the small spline that the 034 has on it now.

I’ll have to look into that thanks for the information

The chain will eventually wear out the sprocket, usually when your local dealer is closed. Spare bearing is good to have also
Right on. Only dilemma I’m having now is my dealer just called me to inform me that the front tensioning screw is no longer available from st only dilemma I’m having now is my dealer just called me to inform me that the front tensioning screw is no longer available from stihl. It only took them 2 days to figure it out and let me know

it is a m5 x 50 pan head
Yes it is nobody around here has one. I was trying to find pictures of the whole set up because all I could get was the nut that moves the bar everything else no one has been 2 places that are a dealer for stihl they told me they couldn’t get the screw or that little clip or block that holds the screw in the case. I took the time to tear the whole saw apart the piston looks brand spanking new it was not run much but they never clean it much it was nasty dirty I like to clean my saws every day I’m done using them thats just the way I am

2018 stihl price list has all those tensioner parts listed. Should be ~$10

page #4 34-36

Give dealer the #s and have them order them

When you do the clutch parts take off the plastic cover so you can clean the crud out around the clutch

This was 2018 price list with ALL the parts available. Try another dealer, I doubt they sold out all as most likely cross references to MANY older saws. (**** I'm glad I've got 056, 038 , 024, 028 parts carcasses!). If not you can McGuyver the screw but the other parts look for a carcass.

If other dealer finds it, NEVER go back to the first one, and spread the word.

Try giving Harley a holler. He'll check , if yer nice, if parts are stihl OEM available. He's a pisser, but a good guy.
