A month or two ago I loaned my new MS660 to a city tree worker for one single cut and he killed it. I'm in the process of rebuilding it (with the help of a couple of you gents, since I don't know what I'm doing).
Also at that time two more saws went down - one seemed like a carb issue, but even after I did a carb rebuild it still wouldn't run right so I took it to the shop. But then my 200T died on me - seized up. So I just ordered a piston kit.
This past spring my paint sprayer stopped working (I now have the money to get that fixed) and a couple weeks ago I couldn't get my pressure washer started.
Today I went to split some wood and the electric motor on my splitter is shot.

Dang it all!!! I just can't catch a break. 3 saws down, a paint sprayer, pressure washer, and splitter motor.

But wait! There's more: I have a slow leak on the front right tire of my work truck AND my dump truck, and another slow leak on a trailer tire.

My wife suggested I just go on a big tool-buying spree. That's tempting, and we have some money coming in now, but I want to be thrifty and repair all this stuff first. I wonder what's going to break next??

Sometimes I think a person is better of living in a condo somewhere and let the OTHER people take care of things that break.
Just this year,LIGHTNING hit close to home.
Washer,Dryer,TV,Gate opener, 2 freezers
Loaned a dumptruck to friend, pto pump (+shaft),seals on hoist, (IF YOU LOOSE A HYDRAULIC CAP OF THE RESERVOIR,REPLACE IT NOW)just last weekend I blew the cylinder out on my tractor, year's not over yet

After losing my wife on august 6 then my mom on the 14th I realize the things that can be replaced are the things that mean the least in life. Be thankful that you and your family are healthy, there will always be a new saw or something else in life. It all sucks:(

It sucks that all your stuff is end of life-ing at the same time.

May I ask you a serious question (and I can't believe that we're this far into this thread and no one has asked yet): Why on earth would you loan ANY of your "good" O P E to someone?

I use to loan out quite a bit of stuff like pressure washer, utility trailer, tiller, kayaks and various tools but UNFORTUNATELY.......
I have to ask for it back and is usually returned used and abused.
Most recently my new pressure washer was left out in the rain all weekend and then returned with melted hose, obviously drug across exhaust.

The lack of respect for my belongings has left me no choice but to deny all requests to borrow.

I always stand amazed at how attached people get to inanimate objects. It’s just a chainsaw. We loan saws to other tree companies. It pays off in spades we you need a favor or are in a jam and need some help. I will loan most anyone a Makita 6401 saw with fuel. It is an ex pat from Home Despot. If HD rental could not kill it, what hope do you have?

It's not the attachment. It's the fact that you loan someone a piece of equipment that is in good working condition, and it comes back damaged or not working at all. The user usually has "no idea why" it stopped working or how it got damaged. Not wanting to sour the relationship, you end up eating the repair/replacement bill.

It's not really an " attachment " where one might relish in pride.
It's the work that is created once the item is returned........my returned chainsaws usually ended up in rocks.

My wife and I have always been very giving but people who continually borrow seem less responsible and there lies the problem.

You folks need some better acquaintances. Most of the stuff I loan out comes back in better condition and usually with a case of beer or some cash. I also don’t loan junk on the ratty edge of failure and it really should not fail under most circumstances. If it does, then it is not worth owing. I have cut asphalt roofs, chain-link fence, a t post and even a tree cage with the Makita. I have plenty of worn but “good enough” chains. Only thing that would kill it would be straight gas so it comes with fuel and chains if needed.
