another firewood ordering season has began again. the first of my best 2 big ordering customers ordered their winter heating supply early again …. the client with group homes and a horse riding/training arena will be accepting 25 more cords of 24" to30" unsplit boiler wood . HAPPY DAY'S AGAIN!

Wish I could score a job like that. (OK not really because I don’t have time to cut THAT much in one shot).

25 cord load of boiler wood would basically clean up all of the easy access blowdown in my woods!

Here’s what I have to do:
-I owe a buddy another cord and a half of firepit wood. He’ll want 4 cords next summer again. He doesn’t care what species or even if it’s dry as he stacks it in a nice sunny spot and it dries fast.
-A high school classmate wants a face cord of short/ small wood (insert joke here) for her small in-town fire pit.
-An older couple I know wants 4 cords next spring of whatever I bring them (although they’d prefer hardwood).
-A buddy who does welding is doing a project for me this fall so I’ll probably trade him a cord or so.
-I’d like to put up another ten cords for myself before the snow flies. I was thinking if I did a cord each Sunday morning for September and October plus a half cord load one evening each week I’d hit my goal.

And I thought I was busy! Take a break man!
no time for a break gus! winter showed its colors for the first time over nite with an inch of frozen sleet. not much of a fall season here to say as its either rain or rain/snow. second bigger client got antsy and ordered 10 cords over night for next week. with all my reserve still down by 25 cords for when the snow/cold is more then knee deep to refill and time is running short! fall/winter, small orders(1/2 to1 cord) have not began yet for the last moment procrastinator's????????

Its been raining here so much, that people haven't been camping as much in the parks I supply wood to and now they closed them on Tuesday because of the flooding. October is usually the busiest month of sales for me, so I should have plenty for winter for myself and a real good start on next years supply.

I'm still jealous of all the wood boiler wood you get to process and deliver...talk about a time saver! My orders have been coming in fast and furious. I have delivered 51.5 cords over the last 3 weekends and still have right around 40 cords ordered. I'm loving the sudden cash flow but I must admit, my body has taken all week to recover this time.

It has been wet on this side the the river too. I usually have a fair amount of friends that go down to Indian cave state park to see the color change of the trees and they are always looking for a little camp fire wood rain has keeping them home. Had a buddy stop by yesterday to get some wood him and his wife were headed down their for a couple days. Sounds like it may rain here Friday. Next week looks to be nice maybe we can get back in the field to get some more of our yearly pay check out. Until then I will kept feeding the Garn and working in the shop.

I may have more wood to sell then I thought now. I had put my OWB up on Craigs list a while ago, and had a guy stop by last night and make an offer. I may just part with it after all the issues I've had getting installed/moved/reinstalled. Just thinking about the 40-50 cord I've got split/seasoned, what I could get for it if I sold the burner? Hmmm.

40 cord @ $250/cord you got some coin there !!

So if you sell the OWB are going to gas heat or do you have a wood stove in the house?

Not sure what I will do. I have forced air propane and I have infloor heat run that I was running off the OWB that would need some kind of boiler/heater if I wanted to make it run again. I have no other wood fired appliance in the house/nor a place to put one. Not really sure what I even want to do.

Problem with your math, around here, basically no or limited market selling wood to people other than the firewood bundle niche I have managed to get into. Virtually anyone in my area that has an appliance has access to wood, or is not willing to pay good money to purchase it. A few years ago, I had a couple of customers that took about 10 total cord and I had 2 older gentlemen that I went over and custom split for them, but just not a lot of call for selling in bulk orders. It was a freak accident that I stumbled on the firewood bundle thing. It has been really good, I split all winter from a stack of rounds that are set up in a designated area, someone else wraps it and sells it, I send a bill for the bundle count sales for 6 months, which I do really well and then I have more than enough wood left over for me to heat all winter with that someone else has paid me to process. This year, with the parks being closed down 3 times because of flooding, miserable weather for sales when they were open, it appears that I have enough extra cut/split to take my personal burning through 2 winters and probably 2 months of bundle sales at historic averages. So you see the dilemma. Don't really want to try and find another outlet for bundles, because I would have to wrap/stack/deliver and all that jazz.

What's the welding project? Bad enough I don't trade any wood with my welder buddy, and I keep him tied up from getting any himself. We also sleep in the same bed. :)

I can sell a lot of wood locally, at a certain price, if I raise it as much as ten bucks I'll sell almost none. On one hand I can't fault em, low cost of living, low wages, most toss it in a stove and close the door. On the other hand, it's a lot of freaking work that they're dodging, and while firewood may not be romantic in the literal sense, burning it really does have it's own charm to it.

I have a Tommy Lift on my truck and it needs some reinforcements due to rust.

You wouldn't be getting 250 a cord around here either. One good size company has the bundle wood pretty well locked up around here they come in to the area with a loaded truck and hit all the big stores at the same time. A few people that live close to the lakes, camp grounds have signs and sell some bundles. Most of the serious wood burners have access to all the free wood than can cut. One tree service about 10 miles from me used to sell firewood I have noticed the last few years no signs or ads on Craigs list for him and firewood. I ran into him at a parts place last week so I asked aren't you selling firewood. He said no help was a problem and the cost of making it and not enough demand. There is a tree grinding service in the area that will take all the unwanted trees from the tree services or private folks. I don't know were they ship all of the chips to but there is always trucks loading out of there when I go by.

So there’s this guy who buys wood from me off and on. He always says he wants two cords a year but when I tried to be proactive with him and get him hooked up in the spring or early summer he will not answer me. Always waits till late summer/early fall and then he NEEDS wood. Last fall I was all out by the time he got ahold of me. This year I have enough to help him out. He said he’d buy more from me but honestly I don’t have enough so I told him to get the rest from his other guy.
