Stihl 026 won’t run wide open

I have an 026 that won’t run wide open. I have replaced fuel line, impulse line, carburetor, and air filter. The carburetor is adjusted and idles great with good throttle response but when you take up the throttle it starts to go but bogs down. It seems to me that it is not getting enough air. I took the spark plug out right away and it appears to be wet. Any knowledge is much appreciated!

Wet plug means it’s too rich, maybe turn the high adjustment in a quarter turn. Another thing to check is the choke.

The H screw is only half off of being fully seated. What should I look for on the choke? I took the air filter cover off and it seemed to run a tad better trying to get to wide open.

How did you adjust the high side, factory or in the cut?

Half a turn out actually seems low. Factory is usually around 1 full turn out from seated. Another thing to check is the muffler, if it’s choked off you won’t get full throttle.

Try running it with the air filter off. If it will rev out without a filter, the spring for the choke flap is weak and it's getting pulled closed.

The muffler is fine. There has never been a spark arrestor since I have been using it. When I take the air filter off I can get it run wide open for a couple of seconds but I have to take up the throttle slowly to do it. Then it will die out after a couple of seconds .

Well, the reports on the aftermarket carbs seem to be mixed. It seems like more than occasionally people get duds. What happens if you put your original carb back on and run it without a filter? Same outcome?

Hopefully the YouTube vid didnt ask and you already did, but did you pull the muffler cover yet and look at the piston?

Yes I looked at the piston before and it appeared fine to me. Would the intake boot cause these symptoms?

No, a leaky boot would mean a lean run, not flooding.
