Well after doing a search I can't find anyone who has answered this question before. What is the maximum length bar that can be used on a 60cc saw? I am talking using a 7 pin sprocket 3/8 skip chain and not leaning on the saw expecting to light saber thru big hardwood.

More specifically I got hurt pretty bad a couple of years ago and now I find that I can't lug a big saw around like I used to. I am thinking of using my old firewood bucking saw (Sachs Dolmar 116si) as a felling and big wood saw and using my newly acquired J-reds (2051 turbo and 2050 turbo) for bucking and limbing. Right now the 116si has a 20" bar with full comp chain and pulls it well as long as I don't lean into a cut with half my body weight. I occasionally get into a 4+ ft tree and was thinking about getting a 28 to 32 inch bar to handle the big stuff. I don't plan on going crazy and running a 48" on it but was more curious if anyone had ran a 3 ft bar on a 60cc saw before or if I would be pushing it to get a 28" bar to pull skip chain?

The longest I have run on my 60cc Stihls is 25” and they run fine despite all the grief tossed around on AS every time the subject comes up. Used a 25” on my first 60cc saw exclusively for years. As stated above some out West run some pretty long bars on 60cc saws. My 361 and 362 are more stingy with oil than my old 036 Pro. I don’t know if that is an issue with your saws or not. My dad used a 28” on his McCulloch 1010 (54cc I believe) but they have more low end grunt than the newer saws. He didn’t fall trees of that size with it.

I have 28” and 33” bars with McCulloch mounts that you are welcome to experiment with if they will fit you saw.

I run a 32 on my 562 falling timber out here in the NW.

I’ve had three 562xps, and none of them ran worth a damn, with any length bar... I much preferred my 357xp, which ran great with a 24” bar. 562 is large mount which makes it a little easier to find a long bar.

Depends on how your saw oils. Some saws are 20" max others are more. Stihl says you can run a 25" on 362, echo says you can run a 28" on a 620p

Oh, I see. I cut wood in the forest. Not where I can get to them with a tractor... I have wrestled 4’ Douglas Fir rounds into my truck, and it sucks big time.

My back hurts just looking at your loads. I cut a bit of the size 4seasons described but it is loaded with a tractor if I load it. Most I cut is for a firewood ministry and the large pieces are usually chunk down then loaded by the younger guys. Big diameter is a lot of work but a full canopy fat oak has a lot of firewood in it if you are willing to work. I bet you would have a lot of fun cutting around here.

I'd bet my 590 would oil a 32 better then my 7910. The 60cc echos are not stingy at all when it comes to the Oilers.

The 116si has an adjustable oiler that I have set almost at minimum for my 20" bar. I have to turn it up a little when it is below freezing to compensate for thicker oil, but I don't think it will have the power to pull as long a bar as it will oil although it will probably run out of oil before gas.
Also, if you can’t lift a saw bigger than 60cc, how on earth are you wrestling with 4’ rounds?
Brute strength is not the problem, endurance is.
Lugging and lifting are not the same. OP has a tractor and skid steer - I’m guessing he can put those rounds about anywhere.

Bingo!

This brings up another question of how many different bar mounts are there? I think Stihl mounts are different than Husky and Dolmar. But are there just large and small or several other patterns?

My ported 2188 pulled a 24” bar with authority. With that as my baseline, I would say that there isn’t a 60cc saw anywhere that would pull a 32” bar with authority.
