CF98B6CC-3126-4A8E-8350-D75A9D025D79.jpeg Well a few months ago I got my 461 after a lot of thought about what saw to get. I will say I’m completely satisfied with my choice. I cut a little over a truck load of beech and red oak very quick and even had my niece as my helper and to keep me in line. She made sure all of the snacks and Gatorade in my truck were gone but she had fun and I did as well. I really like the torque this saw has to be stock. With the 24 inch bar it didn’t loose much rpm even in the hard beech.

STIHL stock ? No mods yet ? The 461 can be made into a very hard to beat 76.5cc saw IF the guy knows what he’s doing !

It’s stock as of right now , I’m building a new house and all of my extra money is going to it and getting my truck paid off. Hopefully by this spring I’ll have the money to get someone to port it. For my uses I can do with stock for now because I don’t have my outside wood stove yet so it’ll be next fall before I need any wood. Just cut a load for my dad since he is disabled and can’t cut anymore.

Always wanted a 461...... my old 440 will have to do though.
And Justin, you really are a cute little blond :^) (great pic!)
Thanks a lot , having an old 440 is definitely not a problem though those are great saws. I was on the fence between a 441cm and the 461 and ended up getting the 461. I’ve ran the 440s when I cleared right of ways for a couple years and they ran the 25 inch bars all day in hardwood and never had a problem.

You made the right choice. Hyway sells a dual port muffler cover for it cheap. I got one for mine, removed the limiter caps, trimmed them and reinstalled them. Retuned the saw and also put an unlimited coil on it. I love this saw the way it is. I occasionally put on a 32 inch light weight bar with full skip and it has no problem pulling it. I bought the wrap version so I had the large clutch cover and high output Oiler. 90% of the time I have a 20 inch bar on the saw and it’s a joy to run.

Now that I think about it I have done a few small mods to this saw I put the high output oiler in it and the big dogs like comes in the wrap handle version. I may put the Maxflow filter system on it later on too it seems to fill the filter up fairly quick. Did the dual port cover help you any as far as power? I’m sure it made it sound a little better.

It gave it some more power. The big advantage it allows you to run it richer and cooler. You have to remove the carb limiters though and trim the stops so you can richen it up enough. All you have to do is thread a drywall screw in the limiters, pull them out and take an exacto knife and trim the tabs flush. Then reinsert them back in the carb. Be sure to tune it in the cut with your rev limited coil. Don’t fall into the category of running a long bar when it’s not needed. A lot of people make up for their small manhood by running a longer bar than what is needed. The saw will perform a lot better and there will be a lot less filing. Bars and chains are cheaper, etc. again, you made an awesome choice.

I’m not a fan of long bars at all , I’ll never run over the 24 inch on this saw. I keep a 16 on my ms261 and my 201t for the smaller stuff.

24" is ideal for the 461. I have only run my 32 a few times, and it is a PITA. Only for special occasions, or maybe more when I get around to installing my HO Oiler pieces.

Are you seeing a big increase in your oil consumption?

With the stock oiler I was getting around a half a tank of oil left per full tank of fuel. Now I get almost one full tank of oil per full tank of gas.
