Now I know some parts between saws are interchangeable like this jug fitting on this saw or this clutch fits this other saw and so on, what I’m curious about is if anybody knows what carburetors are interchangeable between stihl saws? Specifically for example could I fit a 066 carb on a 044? A larger carb for more airflow is what I’m after. I don’t have the knowledge of grabbing any old carb off the shelf and making it work. Also I know some people mill out their carbs larger but don’t want to mess with that either. A friend of mine has taken a 084 carb and fitted it to a 066 and made a screamer with it...but it entailed some modifying I’m not looking to do. Even if the carb wasn’t a stihl unit and as long as it could be bolted on and tuned that would be great. Any help is appreciated!

Swapping out from an 044 to an 066 carb will definitely take some work. I think the best option would be to have your 044 carb bored out a little bit. It's a quick and simple process that will leave you with a perfect carb without a bunch of messing around with throttle and choke rods.
I see you're in the pnw as I am. Maybe you're close enough to come pay a visit.

I did mod a 440 carb to fit my 361. It went well swapping over a bunch of the parts, like the shafts and top bottom covers. I looked at the 660 and 440 carbs and the design is too different. The entire mounting system is arranged wrong for the 660 to fit the mount stud arrangement on the 440. Chainsaw Jim is right on unless you can find a different carburetor that uses the same basic body dimensions.

Chainsaw Jim whereabouts are you located? I’m up in Lynden knocking on Canada’s door.

The 064/066 carb will slide right on an 044,you will have to turn the fuel and impulse fittings, adjust the throttle rod,but it's probably not best for a stock saw. For 066/660 saws the 064 carb bored out is the best setup. All HS and WJ carbs can be bored larger for a nice increase in flow.
