anyboy use one or have preferences on what to look for? I’d like to get one after having a stick slap me in the eye and I’m still having a hard time seeing clearly after 4 days.. I always wear ear muffs with ear buds but never eye protection are any better then the other?

Husqvarna have a good visor and ear muffs but I found the cheap helmet uncomfortable, I have a skullbucket that I like but wear safety glasses and foam rollies .
Stihl usually has peltor/3m visor and muffs which are good as well but I've not worn a Stihl supplied hat .
I usually go to industrial supply companies for plastic hardhats and put my screen and muffs on .
I'll still wear safety glasses with the visor.

Same as dancan. Didn't like the husky. Got the stihl. Like the quick adj. on the hardhat. I always wear glasses of some sort and don't cut without ear protection anymore. I prefer safety sunglasses on all but the darkest days, and stihl manage to get crap in my eyes.

I liked my Stihl helmet , I retired it after I took a hit that dropped me to the ground and pinned me down , it started by hitting me in the head so hard it knocked my safety glasses right off , the Y landed on my shoulders after knocking me forward that took me off my right foot but I kept my left foot under me shredded my pants they ripped down the leg from the groin to the knee I had saw chaps on over the pants .

I kept both hands on the saw that was on the ground bar away from me , got it shut off , tried to push up and I couldn't get that tree off me

it was not the tree I was cutting on it was a busted top from the tree behind me about 20 feet

I won't say it would have killed me had I not had my helmet on but it sure would have been a lot of scalp stitches and a concussion , and I am not sure I would have been able to control the saw and shut it down as well had I taken such a hit to the head.

my second helmet is an Oregon I bought online - I have a huge head and I have some issues with the ear protection staying down other wise I like it decent

my third is an Efco I got a deal on the face shield feels flimsy but the ear protection is good , it is not a ratchet adjustment however it was old stock and they don't sell that one any more. I mostly bought the helmet because it some other stuff 2 stroke oil and bar oil , a saw case and a pair of saw chaps were about 5 dollars more than the saw chaps alone should have been

all 3 work

BUT

I found what is important is

1 comfortable suspension a hard plastic shell is basically a plastic shell , the webbing suspension is what takes up the energy and touches your head.
2 hearing protection that is comfortable and stays on your ears
3 a good ratchet adjustment in back , wear a hooded sweat shirt when you try it on it should open far enough that you can wear it with a hooded sweatshirt hood on for cold days
4 sweat band that is comfortable and not plasticy

this is the oregon an it is good but the ear muff desing isn't quite right for my fat head https://www.baileysonline.com/oregon-pro-forestry-helmet-system-orf-564101.html

this is the Stihl , this is the one I would buy again I liked it the most even though I have no stihl saws any more. https://www.stihlusa.com/products/protective-and-work-wear/head-and-face-protection/sfhs/

the stihl had it all good suspension , good ears , good face shield lots of adjustment and a good ratchet the Oregon which looks like what efco is re-branding now one ear pops open and doesn't stay down tight on my fat head.

but I have a very large head , I have real difficulty finding hats I have to order size 8 or 8 1/4 hats and the stihl would still fit over a hooded sweatshirt.

my son mostly wears the efco while splitting because without a ratchet I think it is too loose

If I was headed out to buy a helmet today the Stihl dealer would get my business for that helmet they just have the best fitting feeling helmet for my fat head. you pay a little more but the extra 10 -15 dollars is worth it.

I have a hard hat they gave me when i retired, its painted gold of course, the guys had a pretty good sense of humor, lol But, it has a good wide brim and fully adjustable suspension. I wear it when i go out cutting wood, and it feels good to have it on when a limb lets go and whacks you on the head, from above, or ground level. There's been a lot of times i was sure glad i had that old hard hat on my noggin. :dumb:

I did the poked in the eye thing 20 years ago , was real worried for about 4-5 days before the eye started to get better.

been wearing safety glasses almost religious since , I have been prescription safety glasses the last 13 years.

had my safety glasses really save me about 4 years ago , big scratch in the lens from a stainles steel fencing wire , bent iver and it ran right across the lens , would have been my eye had it not been the lens.

in high-school home room the guy I sat across the table from lost his eye between freshman and sophomore year , ugly stuff , it was a screw driver that slipped , had he been wearing safety glasses he would likely still have that eye.

even with the mesh shield if you get one wear safety glasses even with both stuff still gets in but at least it isn't moving fast doing damage

you only get 1 head and 2 eyes and 2 ears take care of them they are the only ones you get.

I find any of the all in one systems uncomfortable. I prefer a hat, plugs, and glasses all separate. When I am not felling or cleaning out a tangled mess, I can take the hard hat off, when the saw isn't running I pull the plugs, and I generally use tinted glasses that don't come off until it is dark. It also gives me the best options for finding a comfortable hard hat, the best eye protection, and lightweight hearing protection.
The only thing I don't have is a face screen to stop those occasional chips to the lips and nose, but I don't feel the need for a full face helmet.

I prefer a skull bucket with a tinted set of safety glasses for falling timber, my employee prefers a skull bucket with a full face guard. Falling timber I can’t stand the guards or bug eye goggles, there’s nothing like the feeling of fines getting in your eyes every time you look up. There’s goods and bads to everyone of them, having had a widow marker kiss the top of skull bucket I’ll stick to one of them or the old Mac t hard hats.

I also use the echo helmet with face shield.
Face shield sure does help with crap gettin in your face. Few years ago i had a 2 inch limb hit top of my helmet while felling a tree. Wont cut without it after that.

I been wearing a protos for about a year now, works good fits my head well with lots of adjustability and is ansi approved. I wear clear safety glasses pretty much all the time with it as I hate getting crap in my eyes when looking up with the mesh up
