I know you guys are the ones who know ..!!
I'm a 58 year old gearhead who loved hot rodding everything from dirt bikes to cars to my saws...

But I have never been a guru on the saws... 2 strokes and engines , yes ... Saw details in particular, no...

The gist of it .. just bought a Craftsman 3.3 thinking it would be a decent mid sized poulan...

Bummed out to find chrome piston and aluminum bore ..

Anyone know what poulan or husky cylinder and piston kit would be a bolt on to swap it all to chrome bore??

I know this is kinda like putting silk stockings on a pig, but I already bought the dang pig...

Save me..

run it like you stole it and it will succumb in about 40 minutes, then use as a door stop.

I was thinking about skipping the ring it for 40 minutes part ... And going directly to boat amchor....

So you are saying that there are no compatible piston/ cylinder combo's that will fit from the rest of the poulan or husky parts lineup?!

I wasn't looking for a project, but I would use it an excuse to pull it down and mod it up a bit if I could swap to a chrome bore cylinder...

I was really wanting it as an "OK" saw to keep my son's from abusing my favorite 2 saws... If you need someone to run something like it was stolen...they are the boys to contact for the job....

I just didn't consider the aluminum bore possibility at all ... Who in their right mind would engineer that?!?!

It's like the aluminum bore Chevy Vega engineer designed a saw...

Mixxer , if you go to the chainsaw forum and do a search there is a good thread on this subject .

Thank you Scott....

My first post here came during late night buyer's remorse after purchase.... So in total newb fashion I posted in wrong form...
Sorry about that...

I posted also in the modded work saw forum after I realized my error..

Poulan 3000 Countervibes were made that way. I'm not sure about the 3400. The 4000 had a chrome/NiSi bore with bare piston, the way all pro saws are made.
The 3000 and its brother the PP 305 were chrome bore with thin ring pistons, top notch runners.

The 3400 was plated piston as well as the 3800. There were others too, some of the Micros, 3300, and some Craftsman versions.

The high silicon coated aluminum bores work very well and are a lot tougher then most folks would imagine. I have seen 3400's run without air filters and the rings wore slap off of them but the bore was still good. New set of rings and back in business.

The chrome plated piston, aluminum bore stuff has been done for years and years, Briggs and Stratton was famous for
