I'm working on this saw and no matter what I do it will only run on choke. I rebuilt the first carb- no change. I ordered a used oem replacement. Same thing! I checked the fuel line and filter and they are fine. What is going on here? Thanks

It’s dead easy to work on, after you figure out the carb linkage. Just got through replacing the o-rings on the cylinder and new Caber rings while I was in there, good little firewood saw that starts on the first or second pull, no matter if it’s cold or hot. A little on the heavy side for its size, but good on gas.

Yeah, if nothing else I'm getting fast at removing the carb! I got it to run right for about 10 seconds then it stopped. I've got the new carb soaking and I am going to put a kit in it. If that doesn't fix it I guess i'll suck it up and buy a vac tester. Any suggestions on where/what to buy?

If you have an old bike pump around with a psi guage on it, you can test for leaks that way. I’ve got more than one saw that I had to strip down and dunk in a bucket of water to find a small leak.

Major air leak.
If you don't have or cannot immediately afford a vacuum tester then dismantle the saw so you can rebuild it nice and tight with a new set of crank seals. A set of seals is about 14 bucks.

I’m with the rest of the posters on here. Check your fuel and impulse lines to the carb. If the carb has been rebuilt all it could be otherwise is muffler screen choked up or crank seals usually due to a shot bearing. Since it’s a clamshell motor you may be able to pull the flywheel off and clutch check for play, and if so replace bearings and seals. They are not that hard to replace just time consuming. If it’s been sucking air your piston-cylinder may also be shot so you would want to check for that.

Being that's close to a Poulan design, are the intake bolts tight? I'd check that and also look at the intake to make sure it's not leaking also. Simple saws to work on, got one going for a guy 2 weeks ago. He had been messing with the mixture and idle screws, had them all out of wack. Sent word to him not to mess with them again.
