Hey guys, first time posting.. I have a 288XP that I picked up for $300. I got it running but it needs some TLC.. I saw a lot of people swearing by them on here, but really don't have the time right now to invest into getting it up to speed. Is this something I should hold on to, or part ways? If I were to sell it, what would be a fair price?

The price depends entirely on the condition.
Posting some good pics will help a lot.

$300 for a project 288 seems on the higher end to me, unless it's in real nice shape. I think if you have need for something to pull a bigger(28"+) it would be worth more to you to finish it up. If it would just sit in your shop I would cut my losses.

You said time was an issue. Money is only an issue when you have time.
I always bought new saws when I didn't have time and when I had time, I would wish my life into the future so I once again could whore myself for money. One of these times I'm going to cash my last cheque and be out of time but one thing I never did was cash out and retired at the stump.

Welcome to posting here.

I hope this helps^^^

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice! I will make time to post some pictures. It's really not in great shape cosmetically. I rushed into the buy; live and learn. I'll probably just hold on to it and slowly rebuild it.. I like the idea of having a "big saw" but really don't have a need.. just a new addiction..

Ahh so a new one comes to the dark side, welcome. Only enablers here, no cures for your addiction. Some pretty good dealers here, to scratch the itch! Good info too! Welcome!
Thanks! My next saw will most likely be from the trading post. The 288 will be a good learning curve since I do not have a lot of experience with small engines (Yet).

I haven’t been here long but I have learned a lot and of course got sucked in and bought a good pro saw from a very good seller. I have next to no experience working on small engines, just a use and get a new one type, but I have already started a break down of a saw someone gave me so I could learn. There is a wealth of information here, search the threads and most times your questions will be answered before you even have to post. Don’t over look the beg for manuals thread, awesome guys over there! Never hurts to ask a question and these guys will get you in the right direction to get the information you need!
