Pioneer chainsaws

Making me wish KZ was still in Arizona lol. They are great looking saws compared to the competitors of the day.

I used them for the first 10 years of my chainsaw cutting life, the 600 was my dads first new chainsaw, he gave it to me when I around 13 years old and I ran it and the models that came after that in the woods until around 65. I got a hand me down 1100, made enough money with that one to buy a new 1450. I could make enough extra money each year to buy another saw, woods work where I came from was good part of our lives and lively hood.

That's a beautiful saw for sure. Back near the beginning of this thread you shared a pick of a red IEL not sure what model anymore. It had a chrome fuel tank, and that saw was amazing. If you could share that one again it would be great.

Pretty cool you got to use these saws when they were relatively new or new.

We did not consider it cool back in those days to run Pioneer saws but we knew what worked for us , to us they were the best working, most dependable chainsaws available. They cut wood to keep us warm, at least 50 cords of hardwood, cut thousands of saw logs and hundreds of cords of pulpwood yearly. I actually cannot remember losing a day cutting in the woods while running Pioneer chainsaws, we even just left them under the brush at the end of each day, find them under the snow,frozen like blocks of ice next day and they started right up and cut all day.

That would not be me, I think Jeff or Darcy had IEL Supers back then and Joe did one up later on. I had a restored IEL AB at that time, the rest of my IEL saws are in just as found condition, runners but not pretty.

Yep the saws I have now have never let me down either. When my grandpa passed I got his p61 western. To this day it hasn't been apart, and still runs great. I couldn't even guess how much it has cut, but at least 20 cords a year for about 15 years that I know of. I once got a p41 that ran missing half a base gasket and the carb was loose, and the saw would actually run. It got a full rebuild, but that sure surprised me.

For kz1000,...Found this pict of mine of one of the 650`s in the collection, notice the cover shape and the rear bolt fastener, this is an early 650, covers were failry light green, this saw has never been restored, its just the way it survived many years of cutting duty.

Since we are quite close to where Pioneer saws were manufactured there has always been a good supply of parts and saws. It has gotten so expensive to ship stuff lately that the fun has gone out of buying and trading stuff with anyone outside my local area. I remember sending Pioneer parts and saws across the big pond for little money but now it has to be something I really have to have to justify spending the big bucks to ship it.

I’m sure it has been. I bought this one close to 3 years ago with it locked up. A little bit of marvels mystery oil and got it unlocked and I have been buying parts as I find them. I think the last piece I need is pretty much the heat shield and piston rings. I know I missed a heat shield a while back on fleabay. But dang parts are just impossible here to find.

Canada is a big beautiful place, lots of different features. I really like Northern Cali and Oregon, reminds me of back home here in a lot of ways, the trees there can be much larger, Redwoods an DF especially.

Yep the inland Sequoia trees are really a sight to see. Unbelievable really until you see them in person.

Last time I got a chance to work on it. I broke the small cam that attaches to the crank for the points. Not sure what I did wrong. But I finally found one in a random parts kit on eBay. $7 and to have have extra nuts and bolts. I’ll take it.

They are really old giants, every trip out there I spend a few days among them, always searching out more of them in the less traveled parts.

That part number is not correct but that air shield will fit your saw, it will fit the 620, 620S and all of the 650 models, it will not fit the 600, or 610 models.
