What saws you running?
1) 084
5) 044
1) MS200 rear handle
1) pole saw
2) blowers, 1 back pack, 1 hand held,
1) hedge trimmer
1) demo saw.
Sounds like it is a lot but it is just me. I take everything to work in the workman. When 1 saw gets dull, I pick up another instead of wasting time changing chains. I start with the biggest saw and work my way down as I get tired but lately not been doing much at all because the chemo makes me tired and weak. That is why I want to get the 200 going. 20 minutes on the 044 and I am whipped now.
Ace had their premixed gas in qts for $8.99
2 of the stihl dealers had 32 oz (qt) cans for $35 but that does not sound right to me.

Why do they even put ethanol in fuel anyway?

Originally they put MTBE in fuel. It contains oxygen, so it has the effect of making the jetting a little. Back in the days of carbureted and early fuel injected cars, many ran rich. Leaning them out a little made their exhaust cleaner. Then they found out that MTBE from leaking storage tanks goes into the water table, and it's toxic. Oops.

Ethanol has the same effect of making the mixture a little leaner. It takes more oxygen to burn a given volume of ethanol than it does for gas and it's less toxic than MTBE. So they switched to ethanol. But now most cars on the road have modern FI with oxygen sensors that adjusts the mixture. E10, or E0, it'll adjust. So E10 does not have any effect on emissions. We have to use it now because a lot of politically powerful corporations are making lots of money selling ethanol.

Buy the VP in the 5 gal can and mix it 50 50.

I may. I have rebuilt many 200T saws and this is basically the same but simpler linkages with the rear handle. I put it together and it tries to start but not managed to get it to run yet. I did not put a new carb on yet.

I could write for hours about this. Ethanol Alcohol is hygroscopic. It pulls water out of the air. High moisture in the crankcase and rings, and bearings, causes trouble. Stops up the carburetor. Makes it run lean. That means hot.
I like Star Tron, (gas additive) It makes em run. But, ethanol is just plain bad.

There may be something to this corrosion factor. 2 of the 044's I tore down today could not be put together because the flywheel side was corroded between the vacuum seal and the crank bearing bad enough they won't seal on a seal. I've never seen this. Outwardly, they were my prettiest saws. Now I am looking for oil tank side crankcase halves.

Choke closing 100 percent?

Yes. It hits a few revolutions choked, then hits a few again with choke off. That's it. Choke it and it just repeats the same. Gone through that cycle about 20 times over 2 days having let it set overnight with fuel in it. The brand new genuine stihl carb straight out of the box flooded it so bad I poured the gas out the spark plug hole. The one it hits on is the one that had been on the saw for 15 years. In comparison, the 044 I finished yesterday started on 2nd pull.

The new carb floods , take it apart and check the lever height and see if anything is stuck in the needle valve and seat. Better yet try it on another running 200T if you can access one.

I had been reluctant to take it apart but it seems no warranty on carbs that have been installed just like electrical parts. Another add it to my do list. On the plus side, it does have a fabulous blue spark and compression is great. I ordered the bakelite crank seals today. I had the rubber come off a seal on the rubber type today and ticked me off. Never had a seal fall apart. I thought about pressurizing it and spraying with soapy water and look for leaks but not gotten that far after 2 saws with a bad case side. So much for planning a day!

Seems I can't count. I was making a list of the carb numbers on my saws and it seems I have 6) 044's.

Have had small engines, saws, etc come from the L48 and the fuel lines were mush. Like overcooked spaghetti almost.

Can only guess it's the gasahol that causes it? We dont have that here and never seen fuel lines go to mush. Usually just get hard and brittle from age.

2 CYCLE PHASE SEPARATION
seized-piston-web_140_126_80.jpg
The engine to the right has been destroyed from phase separated fuel. Ethanol is hygroscopic (absorbs water), the vial to the right is from the fuel tank of this engine. The fuel on top is gold in color because 2 cycle oil will only bond with the gasoline. The octane is also lower because the ethanol has separated from it and bonded with the water below. Approximately ¾ of the clear fluid in the bottom of the vial is ethanol. The ethanol water mix settles in the bottom of the fuel tank and is picked up by the fuel system, then delivered to the carburetor. The engine ran on this ethanol mixture, causing it to run extremely hot with no lubrication. This damage occurs in only a few minutes of operation. The engine also ran out of control, which poses serious safety concerns for the equipment operator.

It would seem that some device that kept mixing the fuel would take care of that problem or eliminating the ethanol. I have a whole bucket ( literally) of pistons like that now. Here are 4 I took out of saws this week. 3) 044 and 1) 200
