Alpina 0-70 with a Nova2 electronic ignition module/chip. I thought I would document this for any future members who need to do the same. The chip was positioned to the lower ignition coil mounting using a longer hex-head bolt to compensate for the thickness of the Nova chip, I then had to change the polarity of the chip , so what was originally the chip positive + , now becomes the negative - terminal and vice versa, hence the red mark on the chip negative terminal. The timing was advanced half a key width, hence the new red timing marks for TDC for future reference. finally, part of the starter housing had to be removed, as it was now obstructed by the Nova chip. So far the saw starts and runs very well. I intend to get a video up in the next week or so ?

Could I suggest you mount the "Nova" the other way around with the finning ali toward the saws works The heat disipation seems better Looking at your piccies your Nova seems the older larger one the latest is smaller & would probably fit without modding the cowlings Think you would get improvment in revving up with carb needle tweek, Done a good job getting it to be a runner , Enjoy.
 
Good job on getting it going with the chip. I have heard the main problem with these chips is dying from heat so its best to mount them as far as possible from the cylinder.
fortunately its getting blasted with cold air from the fan when running ;o) which is one of the reasons I mounted it there, it was origionally mounted where the points were. I also mount my Homelite xl12 modules like the Alpina although the xl12 works perfectly well with the self grounding SIG-01 type chips. the alpina would only work with the Nova type , reversing the polarity. From what I can gather the polarity of the flywheel magnets is what determines the orientation of the positive and ground connections. Some saw flywheels have the common North then South polarity setup while a few have the opposite. The opposite setup requires the positive to be reversed with the negative/ground. I think your mounting for the chip is ok as its not directly mounted to the cylinder where the heat after the saw is shut off would heat sink into the chip.
