How long do stoves last?

Maybe a reason to run a stainless liner. Problem solved and it will run cleaner/hotter and clean out all the easier.
Will your stove outlet match up(low enough) to go through the fireplace opening?

A bigger (diameter) flue can actually reduce draft. All else equal.

My buddy is a mason. He is going to punch a hole above the fireplace and insert a thimble. He has already seen my setup and agrees moving it to the bigger flue should increase my draft. The flue my stove is currently on is 20-22' long and 8", so the bigger 12" will help.

As far as I know that isn't legal in the US anymore.

I know it used to be ok in Maine, but they banned it recently (last 10 years maybe).
Building code won't allow an install on a new setup this way. My house was inspected before I bought it and it was noted, but that was it.

A larger flue diameter will decrease your draft. Most modern stoves want a 6" flue. Your Fisher probably wants and 8". Mine was actually rectangular because it was an insert, so I built a plenum to adapt to 6". It drafted so hard, it would practically suck your hat off your head. I would not recommend using a 12", especially if you're having draft issues with the 8".

I've got a sister in Maine and know that they got some kind of variance because of an old installation predating the regulation but it would make me nervous in my house.
If she was to update her boiler it would most likely have to come up to current code specs.
Anybody know it they make a boiler that vents out PVC ?

Especially if that is a square 12" in a masonry and clay chimney.

The environment is it's worst enemy. The one in my house shows no signs of wear and still looks like new. The one in my shop that is not climate controlled rusted out in about 10 years. Just clean it out real good at the end of each season. Make sure to keep the ashes cleaned out. Ash is very corrosive and collects moisture. Replace the fire bricks when they start falling apart. The fire bricks protect the steel from getting to hot.
